Have you ever heard of a photographer stating in the contract that, if you want photos of each table (like group photos), it’s an additional $10 per table? A friend is getting married in Florida and she’s met with several photographers who told her this is standard across the industry. I never came across it in my planning, but I’m in a different region. Just curious if anyone has ever heard of it!

I’m a wedding photographer, and that sounds completely bogus. We’re being paid to photograph your event, so that means photographing the people at your event. Sounds like you may be taken for a bit of a ride?

We paid our photographer by the hour and she took pictures of whatever we wanted.

I didn’t specifically request photos of each table, butnindont see why that would cost more. She’s paying them to take photos and that payment is usually by the hour, what does it matter what they take pics of?

Your friend needs to start looking at different photographers. Not only has this never come up in any of my meetings with photographers in Florida, but I’ve never heard of this period. We are paying my photographer a fee for ten hours of photography. If she told me she was going to charge me extra money during the reception to take photos of the guests, I’d find another photographer. What else is the photographer going to be doing during the reception if NOT taking photos of the guests?
This is not standard in Florida. I’m not sure who she is working with, but I had not had that come up at all.

Although our photographer is the only one we’ve ever hired, I’ve never heard of charging extra for certain types of photos. Same deal with the other photographers we looked into. The only extra charges I’ve seen have been for things like an engagement session (if it wasn’t included in the package), additional hours, a 2nd shooter, album upgrade, etc…
I know photographers have different pricing models, but those photographers saying it’s an industry standard sounds fishy to me.

Thanks for the comments — I thought it sounded super fishy, too, but just wanted to make sure it wasn’t off-base to say that to her if it truly was a regional thing. Thanks for confirming I’m not crazy, Bees!

JiminyCricket: I’m a wedding photographer, and that is the most absurde thing I’ve heard. I’m hired for a certain number of hours, and I capture everything that happens within that time frame – including the details. Now you have me curious who the photographer is!!!
