I'm personally not a fan, but I think it depends on what you like. There are many beautiful pick up skirt dresses out there, although they aren't my taste. Buy whatever you want! It is your dress and your day!
Not to offend anyone, but I think pick up dresses will be like the poofy sleeves of the 80's. I'm not very found of pick-ups at all but have seen a couple that look decent
I love pick-ups, as long as they aren't ridiculously overdone (some of them just look silly). But I definitely think you should do what makes you happy. Who cares if it looks dated? As long as you can look back on your photos and smile that's really all that matters.
I love pick-ups, but I also think they are trendy and may date your pictures. But you should buy the dress that you love and not worry about trends or poofy sleeves from the 80s!
All of our modern dresses today will look totally dated and retro in about 15 years. It's inevitable. The only -- only -- way to avoid it is to choose style that's already been in, then out of the fashion cycle already. In other words: Pick a vintage design from at least 30 years ago, and it's already an "antique" look and it won't ever look dated/tacky again.
That's just how it is.
Otherwise, if you're going for a modern, new design, love it now -- and accept that it will look crazy-dated and even laughable in 15-20 years.
Sure, you will almost always be able to tell what "era" a wedding dress is from, IMO. Just like you can look back at old school pictures and tell.
But you're getting married in 2010 - flaunt those pickups and be proud to claim your year! I am!
I'm personally not a fan of pickups at all. I've yet to see a dress with pick ups that I didn't think looked ridiculous. However, that's just my personal taste. Buy the dress that makes you happy regardless of what's in style or how it will look in 20 years. And if you love poofy 80s sleeves and want them on your dress now, then what's to stop you? :-)
It isn't my favorite style... but the only thing that matters is that YOU love it. I mean honestly poofy sleeves were in then... you will never buy a dress today that you would buy in 15 years again.
i agree with all of the pp, but if you love it, get it!!! in 15 years it may be outdated but in 50 it will be vintage and gorgeous (just look at everyone making a mass exodus to lace and glamour chic dresses!)
I didn't think I liked pickups too much, until I tried on "my" dress, which has a few. I agree with sleepylittlesailor, everything is going to look dated decades into the future. Even my beloved collection of stilettos will scream "dated" in 15-20 years. Don't worry about future fashions, go with what you love now!
Go w/ what you lvoe. I've seen pick ups done awfully and i've seen them done really tastefully! Just like anything else. If you want to avoid being "out" a la Heidi Klum, go with something vintage, something very simple, or something very classic. I'm sure ruching and beading and the "dramatic train/skirt" trend will all be out in 10 years. Who knows, maybe we'll all get practical and get married in paper bags by then...=]

Hey girls. Looking for your opinion. I tried on dresses today and loved too many of them. SHOCKED! I'm a plus size girl and was overwhelmed at the choices. What are your thoughts on pickup dresses for 2010? Think it will be unique today and the horrible pooofy sleeves of the 80's or .....?
