So it’s less than a year away?  It may seem like a long time, but it’s really not.  I asked my bridesmaids a few weeks after I got engaged.  I started looking at dresses right away.  (I bought mine in January, and it still hasn’t come in.)  I sent my STDs nine months before the wedding date – like yours, a pseudo-destination wedding for a lot of people.  Things you should start thinking about right away because they book quickly:

Band/DJ
Photographer
Caterer (if not included in venue)
Officiant
Ceremony Site (if not at venue)
Florist

Congrats!!

@kl1987:  Definitely book your photographer, DJ, and caterer ASAP because those are the big vendors that can book up a year in advance so if you want the most options or the best chance of getting the good ones, research and book them ASAP.

I got engaged April 2013 and we set our date for Jul 5, 2014. I was surprised with how many vendors started booking up quickly! We had the important things booked within about 2 months after we got engaged- DJ, photographer, officiant, etc. The only big thing we have to do is florist, and we’ve found one, just have to give them our deposit. I would say to start booking appointments and meeting with people! Make sure you read a lot of reviews online first! 🙂
