Kacie209:  Congratulations on your wedding! You will LOVE the Elegance and the Bavaro beach! We were married this past June at the Majestic Colonial which is the sister resort next door to the Elegance. The resorts and staff are excellent and we would go back in a heartbeat. We stayed in the 18+ Club area and really liked all the perks like adults-only pool, private beach area, butler service and the Club lounge….we would definitely select Colonial Club again! Will this be your first time at an all-inclusive in DR? Happy to share some tips if it is.

Kacie209:  I stayed at the Majestic Elegance about 4 years ago and it was awesome.  I went on a girls’ trip with my best friend, but it was definitely a very romantic setting!  One of our friends also went there on her honeymoon this past April and loved it as well.  I stayed in the Adults Only section, and I think it was really worth it.  The suite we stayed in had a jacuzzi both inside and outside, and doors that led to one of the Adults Only pool areas.  It was one of the best vacations I have ever taken.  Three pieces of advice I would give:  1. The tile floors in the room and patio get VERY slippery when wet, so use caution!  2. We tipped the bartender by our pool $20USD at the beginning of the week and always had a drink in our hand (she would just appear with some fancy concoction when we were near the end of our drinks).  3. The sun is super strong there, so make sure to bring tons of sunblock, a hat, and cover-up if you are at all sensitive to the sun.

Kacie209:  FI and I stayed there in Aug ’13. You’ll love it it was gorgeous! The beach was amazing and not too packed & the water was gorgeouuus! We could only go in the ocean in the morning/early afternoon because the waves were a bit too stong for us in the late afternoon/early evening.

The staff was nice and accomidating (make sure you bring tip money! They’ll treat you like a king and queen ex: the staff saved us a great table every morning for breakfast because we tipped them for every meal) we tipped the staff/our servers $1-$5US at every meal. The a la carte reasturants were amazing (the italian one was my fav! the rizzoto was #1) and the booze is good, and not watered down at all.. I really enjoied the local beer too!

Another good thing about the resort is that they have a Doctor there, I felt kind of sick while we were there and he took good care of me and gave me some meds to settle my stomach, I was covered by our travelers medical insurance, so I’m not sure how it works if you dont buy coverage.

Another thing, do yourself a favor and bring your own aloe vera gel, sun block, alka seltzer, headache pills etc! The pharmacy on the resort is crazy expensive! We spend $20US on 250ml bottle of Aloe Vera gel for my sun burns lol

All in all its an amazing resort and FI and I plan to go back in the next year or so (we actually loved it so much that my friend is thinking of getting married there because we raved about it so much lol) When we went it was nice and quiet (other than the pool party lol) and there were’t a lot of kids on the resort either, it was 99% adults. And we just stayed in a regular Suite.

Kacie209:  I beleive we stayed in the Elegance Club Swim Up Suite (I just went to their website to check and now I want to go back sooooo bad!).  It sounds really fancy, but we got a good deal.  I can’t rmember how we booked it, and it may have had something to do with the time of year (October), but for a full week with flight and transportation to and from the airport, we paid $2500 for two people, which I thought was a bargain.

We just stayed at the Magestic Elegance in September for our honeymoon and it was beyond amazing.  We stayed in the Elegance club member suites which was the adults only portion of the reort.  The rooms themselves are pretty much the same thoughout the resort but in the Elegance Club you have access to certain lounges, private pool, private area of the beach, and restaurants.  Bring everything you think you will need with you because the on site pharmacy and store are quite pricey.  Some of the shops on the colonial side of the resort will allow you to haggle on the price of souvenires. Also as others mentioned make sure you tip when a tip is earned.  They definitely appreciate it and remember you throughout your stay so they look for you and cater to you when they do see you. We went during the week and it was definitely quieter because we say a lot of people starting to show up Thursday for the weekend.  If you are looking for a relaxing vacation you will definitely have it there.

Let us know how it goes!!

Kacie209:  We stayed at the Majestic Colonial last march! The Elegance side was MUCH more… well.. elegant, but a lot of the stuff was the same (and you can eat at the restaurants that don’t require reservations of both).

It was lovely and you’ll love it! The adults-only advantage was nice, especially on the beach. Get there early to claim a good spot though, it was crazy packed and if you weren’t there early (I uusually did yoga on the beach at sunrise, and left stuff to hold our spot then, went and ate breakfast, then came back).

Also do NOT go on the “shopping tour” that the hotel will suggest, it takes you to TWO stores, that are like touristy stuff and it takes forever and ugh, it was so annoying.

We also did the “romantic dinner” for $100 on the beach, which is when my fiance proposed 😀 the pineapple flan was amazing. I forget what it was called though lol

As for tipping, I don’t recommend “tipping ahead” at this resort. The bartenders switched out sooo often and were rotated throughout the whole resort it seemed, so it was hard to find “your” bartender. We just kept a bunch of 1’s and would tip a dollar each time we got drinks.

Also, on the beach ask for “hielo xtra” in your drinks because they melt FAST if you dont, at least when we were there, the “slushy” drinks were runny (think out of the slurpy machines at 7-11) unless you asked them to put extra ice.

The banana mama was the best drink ever. lol there was another one too that was amazing, they all have fun names. (dirty monkey was one)

🙂

I’ll post again if I think of anything else lol

Oh- we went on the ziplining & monkeyland (it may not have been called that) tour and it was amazing! 😀

Oh, bring more sunscreen than you think you need. I was burning through 30SPF and when we ran out it was literally $15 or $20 for one thing of sunscreen!

AND take insulated mugs with you, (like the bubba brand) like I said before, the beach will melt them FAST and they use small plastic cups, so if you use a bubba mug instead, you don’t have to get up as often for refills lol
