I am obviously a waiting bee and my boyfriend and I have been looking at rings and diamonds for a few months now! We went to our local jeweler and put a diamond on layaway! He is really flexible and since we are both still in college we thought layaway would be nice since it’s no interest and you can go in whenever and pay whatever amount you please! Right now we don’t have an exact setting picked out (we will go custom route) but I am stuck in between two specific ones, so help me out!
Here is the diamond, it is GIA certified, XXX, 1.20ct, I color.
And here are the two settings I am in between. The first one has total carat weight of both the engagement ring and wedding band to be .50ct, and the second one has a total carat weight of both the engagement ring and wedding band to be 1ct. I am a size 5 finger and have pretty short fingers so I don’t know if the thicker band is best, but I do like how it looks. I feel like the thinner band diamonds will be less noticeable from afar. Your opinions much appreciated!

I said setting 1 but I am a sucker for thin bands. They are both so beautiful.

@paygeee: Okay I don’t know if you like this style but I also have a size 5 finger and what I liked was a thin band for the e-ring and a thicker wedding band!

I like the top one…my personal likes are making that main diamond shine and be the focus, with bigger diamonds on the band it can look smaller at least to me.

I voted thicker because I think it’s not too overpowering, and I love the size of the diamonds in that wedding band! I picked something similar width wise for myself. I unfortunately don’t have a picture, but the e-ring and band are each about 2.5 mm. My fingers are size 6, medium width but pretty short. One of the reasons I went with a slightly bigger width is because the wedding band looked so gorgeous on its own that way, so I will like them both separately and together. The thinner band might be a little small without the e-ring beside it.
(I tried on a super funky band that was probably 8mm and it looked SO BAD on my hand. Even the salesguy agreed that it was not the best look for me. It took up almost all the space up to the knuckle. Too bad, it was really cool looking in the box. My point is that I definitely get your conundrum.)

@harperlynn: I am pretty OCD about things matching so I think I need to engagment ring setting and wedding band to be exactly the same.
@Day_In_The_Life: I totally agree– I want the diamond to pop but I saw this picture of someone on the bee (forgot their name) and I fell in love with the thicker band. She is a 3.5 finger, so much smaller than mine, but her diamond size is 1.10ct and I think the diamond still pops. Totally posted this to see other’s opinions but I feel more stuck in the middle now than before! Ahhh!

I personally prefer either thin bands and dainty diamonds, or thicker bands with larger diamonds, so my vote is for the thinner band.
I think it’ll make your centre diamond pop more than the thicker band.

I like the thicker, but both are awesome!
