After 4.5 months of agony and second-guessing, the dress is here. It's pretty. But I'm still not in love :( 7 weeks to go before the wedding. I don't know if I'm just being crazy. Should I just suck it up and be happy, or try to find an immediate plan-B? I have a few alternatives in case this happened (a preowned dress online, a local sample dress etc) but I don't have photos of me in them so I'm not sure if they are a perfect 10 either.  After seeing the final product, here are my thoughts:

    1. The dress is still gorgeous on the rack. The detail is simply amazing.

    2. The color is good, no worries there, (I'd never tried or seen the dress in white before), though the flowers look more ivory than white.

    3. I don't think it makes me look midget-like, which was a big worry. I don't know, what do you guys think?

    4. Here's my biggest problem...I think it makes me look thicker than I am. Not fat, just thicker. I'm a size 2 with a tiny waist. But I don't think the dress shows this at all. The worst thing in my opinion, is tthat the 3-D flowers are built in the worst possible spot hiding the waistline and adding bulk on the stomach. So when I look at the photos I see big boobs on top, big hips on bottom, and not an emphasized waistline. I was hoping this would not be the case when the dress came in my size, but nope, still is. You can see this especially in the last two photos. It looks worse from the front than the back.

It's a beautiful dress, and I like in some photos, but not all...I think ballgowns with built in corsets cinching in the waist like Eve of Milady's were much flattering on me.

Ultimately I have to love it of course, but I would like second opinions. PLEASE don't hold back and be nice just because I purchased the dress, please chime in if you have any negative opinions and be as critical as you'd like. I don't want to look back on my wedding photos and hate them. Do you also see what I see or I am being crazy? If you were me, would you wear this dress? FYI, I have the cash for a second dress, so as much as I don't like being wasteful, finances are not an issue. So please don't say "save the money and use it for something better", tell me how you think it LOOKS. I want to get the dress perfect, it's very very important to me. If you have any suggestions on how alterations can improve the dress, I'm open to those as well.

I think your dress is gorgeous and you look teeny-tiny.  However, if it bugs you could you maybe get a very talented seamstress to strategically remove some of the offending flowers around the waist?  Also, if you wanted to add a sash, that could emphasize your waist even more if that's really important to you.  You look totally lovely in it as it is, though.

I think it looks BEAUTIFUL, but I can see what you mean about it making you look bigger than you are. You don't look big by any means, but dresses like that always emphasize the hip area, which can be unflattering on anyone.

I think it looks absolutely beautiful on you, and you don't look bad at all - but I understand how we can be our own worst critic and see the things that other people would never notice. If you wore the dress, I can promise that all of your guests would think you look stunning, and no one would think you look "big" at all.

BUT, if you're uncomfortable in the dress and think it makes you look big, I think you should get a different one. I'm petite as well, and I know that when I'm wearing something that I think makes me look bigger, I'm very self conscious and not comfortable with myself...and I think on your wedding day, feeling beautiful is the most important thing!!!

I think the dress is BEAUTIFUL and you look beautiful in it! I think it is actually very flattering and I think you look really sexy. Honestly though, I am a firm believer that people can say everything you want to hear but if you don't believe it you are going to be unhappy. If you are really having second thoughts about the dress and have the money to spend, I would look around. You might have a hard time getting a dress in time for your wedding if you need alterations, but if it will make you happy then it's worth a shot. You don't want to say it's ok, and then right before the wedding make yourself upset because you wish you changed it. Maybe once you try on some other dresses you will end up loving your dress more.

Wow, that dress is absolutely gorgeous, and you look really sexy in it. I say keep it. I understand what you say about your waist, it doesn't look tiny in the photo, however, you still show off a great body. I think this is an effect of the fabric, that it's so heavy and thick. Perhaps you are right and a corset dress would show off your tiny waist more. But seriously you look very very good in it, and the dress is absolutely breathtaking, my jaw dropped.

OMG, you look AMAZING in the dress.  I think we are our own worst enemies.  With that being said, if you aren't happy with the way you look (amazing...have to say it again), then maybe you should have a plan b dress.  But, you really don't need one because you rock that dress!

I think you look great! I see what you are saying that there does not appear to be huge difference from the waistline to the hips, but I think that is the nature of the trumpet or mermaid styles - they are tightest on the bust and over the hips and upper thighs.  I think that style of dress just does not emphasize a tiny waist.  Honestly, I think you look great and you shouldn't be so self conscious, especially if you're a size 2! Nothing can make a size 2 look big!  Laughing

Wow. Okay seriously. You look like a frigging model. You should be the poster for this dress maker. Like a previous poster said, we all see our own flaws and zone in on them, but really truly, you are stunningly gorgeous! The dress is beautiful, makes you look like a perfect hour glass!

That being said, if you don't love love love it and think you can find better, there's no reason why you can't go try on others! It doesn't cost to look right? And like you said, you don't want to look back on your photos of the day and hate that dress in every photo. Don't write it off, but I think it doesn't hurt to try to find the one that makes your heart go pitter pat either :)

Thank you for all the comments, keep them coming :)

As a comparison, here's me in three "reject" dresses. The dresses weren't nearly as nice, but they fit me better around the waist.

I don't see much difference in your waist between these dresses and the first one. I think you look hotter in the first one. My vote is keep the dress you already have, it is stunning and so are you.

Honestly? You look fantastic! I agree with a pp about maybe adding a sash..try it and see how it looks. But, i know from experience that no matter what others tell you, if you are unhappy, there no amount of compliments that will make you like it.

I don't think the 3D flowers are that big at all.  If they were any smaller, they wouldn't be as noticeable in pictures, etc.  I think the mermaid skirt is a good choice for your body size, and the sweetheart neckline looks great with the shape of your face and your long dark hair.

Now for the critique:  It kinda looks like you should shift the dress up an inch or so.  You're well endowed if I may say so, and if you raise the dress, it will push up your bust just like a push up bra.  When your bust goes up and out, your waist comparatively goes in.  The seamstress can then take in the dress just a bit at the small of your back.  I think that would make a world of difference.  Maybe the right shaper bra can help you out with that too.

You look stunning!! You have an amazing figure and look beautiful in that dress! I would keep it. But like others said, if you don't completely love it and DO have the financial means...you might want to find something you absolutely love so you don't focus on this one part of the dress you don't like and drive yourself crazy!

I just saw your comparison dresses, and they're all gathered in at the small of the back where yours isn't.  I really do think that is something that a seamstress can easily pull off on your dress!

I think your dress looks amazing on you! (After looking at these pics, I may have to try that dress on again before I make my dress decision!) But I also know how it feels if its not exactly right! I don't think you look big at all. But I do know how feels when you think something makes you look bigger than you are, no matter what anyone else says. If you have another dress that you completely love, then go with that. Or try alterations, I think this one just needs to be taken in at your waist. You can also add a sash or see if they can add the corset/ lace up back (instead of buttons) so that you can really pull it tight at the waist. Again, I think that dress is so beautiful on you, but its most important that you feel beautiful in it!

P.S. It looks like the last two photos (where you think the dress looks the worst) are taken from below you. I think that is the most unflattering angle for anyone. (My bridesmaid who is even shorter than I am took all of my dress photos from below, so I think I look so big in them!) You're wedding photos will most likely be taken from straight on or above (especially if your photographer is taller than you).

Honestly, I think the one you went with is much nicer looking on you than the other ones you posted.  Like the other girls said, you could go to a seamstress and see if you could get it edited or adjusted to make you happier.

Just curious, when you bought the dress, what did you like about it?  Maybe you need to try to force yourself to stop being critical of it and go back to that moment where you thought it was the one.

Your dress looks fantastic on you. It's gorgeous. I don't think the other dresses make you look any smaller.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure you'll ever be 100% sure of your dress. From what you've written here, you've tried on hundreds of dresses and still haven't found "the one." Some of us never have "the one" moments, and that's okay! Since you don't have financial restrictions, go ahead and keep looking, but you may just end up stressing yourself out. What if you choose to keep looking, get down to 3 weeks before your wedding, and still don't feel like you've found "the one"? Will you be even more disappointed with your current dress? If not, keep shopping. Truly, your dress looks fantastic, but I'm not sure if we can convince you of that, no matter how much we tell you how great it looks. You're the only one who can decide if you love this dress or not. Good luck with your decision! I'm sure you'll look beautiful in whatever you choose to wear :)

i'm having the same exact concern right now.. i went for my first fitting and even though the dress fits, i feel like i have no waist in it.. which ruins the whole look..

but you look beautiful.. and i honestly don't notice a big difference between that dress and your other pics.

Uh...my jaw literally dropped when I saw you in that dress and I was totally filled with jealousy.  Maybe your waist looks a bit tinier in the other dresses, but this is BY FAR the sexiest one, and you still have an incredible slim but hourglass figure in the dress you chose.  Please don't have too much regret, it is so not worth it for how beautiful your dress is and how absolutely incredible you look in it.  I agree with all the others, you look a million times better than the model they used for that dress, and frankly I think they picked a GREAT model for that dress. Proudly rock your amazing gown!

Hmm, even though I don't like the other dresses that much I do feel like they make me look tinier. I must be seeing things. This is why I ask other people's opinions.

For now, I think Plan A is go to seamstress immediately and see what could be done. I've seen girls on SYTTD hate their dresses when they pick it up and feel better after alterations. If seamstress gives no assurance, I think Plan B is to buy a sample dress next weekend from my alternatives that are less of a special dress, but make me feel more confident.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments, critiques and suggestions. It's hard to be alone in your head with all these doubts and questions.

@frugal_faye - I really wish they could remove the one line of flowers around the waist like you said. It looks to me like it would be very difficult, but I'm no seamstress.

@jenbrander - You're right, the dress definitely needs to be raised. It kept falling and I had to keep pulling it up for the photos. I probably should've mentioned, the dress is a size 6 even though I normally wear a 2, so probably has room for adjustment still.

@FutureMrsTaylor - LOL, I really don't think I'd think you look like a bus. Just a matter of how flattering a dress is on the person. In fact I was just looking at a size 16 dress on a used site and thinking this girl looks the same size as me in that dress.

@Beachybride - And now I wish I went with the LZ3819 instead :) Just tried my dress on again holding back the waist with my hands. Looks a bit better but the darn flowers bunch up on the sides. Don't know if corset is doable with all that beading.

@LadyGoodman - I never thought it was the one :( I never found the one. I always found this dress pretty but wasn't sure about the fit on me, but I was hoping it would improve when it was ordered in my size and height.

@owlbride - I know I sound like a crazywoman in my dress posts. Like one who can never be satisfied with anything. But I'm an encore bride, and I bought my first wedding dress off the rack in the second store I looked at, and love it to this day. Just looking to find that feeling again and at 100+ dresses it just isn't happening, I don't know why!

@veganglam - Thanks, that means a lot coming from you! I know you have exquisite taste in dresses.

I literally read every word of your post before even glimpsing at your photos, and had in my head what the photos must look like.  When I looked it was not even close!  Your waist looks TINY and I love you dress.  I'm not just saying that in a "oh your slim so it must be flattering' way at all.  I also have a relatively small waist and was concerned that it would be accented properly in my dress, so I totally see where you are coming from.  I would really just keep this dress, it looks great :)

@meliss- I think we all are our own worst critics. I posted a thread about the exact same thing and everyone told me I was crazy. You look amazing though. I think if the dress went straight up and down it might look a little weird. You definitiely pull that dress off well.

Drop dead gorgeous dress!!!  But, I think it could be taken in at the waist & hips..the last photo looks like the waist is baggy.  I'd get it done very tightly and then I think you will have the effect you are looking for!!  You choose a great dress, it just needs a little tweaking to fit your body perfectly!!!

@meliss - I definitely don't think you sound crazy! I'm so sorry if that's how my post sounds. I just think a lot of girls stress themselves out trying to find the one single perfect dress, and I don't believe that everyone gets that kind of feeling. You've had that before, so I can only imagine your frustration in not finding it now.  You look fantastic in every dress you've posted - I truly don't think you can make a bad choice :)

You look great in your dress!  But to be honest, I like you the best in your third reject, the Casablanca :)  You have to do whatever is comfortable to you, and only you.....don't please anyone else.  It's your final decision :)
