So FI and I would like to adopt a puppy to complete our furry family. We love cockers and have good experience with their needs, training, grooming, etc. This little guy has a bit of a sad story, and we need help re-naming him.
His owner was in California and bought him from a pet store that works with a breeder. We have seen all the paperwork and also his shots, etc. so we know this story is legit. Basically the owner is a student who is in Canada on a work visa and he decides school and dog are too much. So the dog has to go.
This boy “Goofy” is only 3 months old. He has been in California, now in Ontario, and presently is sitting in the owners parent’s house in a crate most of the day.
We spent an hour with goofy yesterday, and he has the most sweetest disposition allt hings considered. He is very playful and also has a very calm temperment and is very good with strangers. I picked him up and he let me hold him and kept giving me kisses, etc. The owner feeds him crappy dog food and has to groom him and we can’t wait to give this pup a spoiled, loving home. Our cats are the most spoiled…they have 23 dollar a bag cat food and all the toys they could imagine 🙂 lol
Anyhow, we would like to rename him as he doesn’t suit goofy at ALL, and would like to give him something that links him t ohis California roots.
Any ideas? We would prefer it to be a human-sounding name 🙂

How about Pluto? That was Goofy’s dog. Just a thought

For some reason, the picture makes me think “Charlie” but that doesn’t have any California roots.

I’m not too creative with names, but I wanted to tell you that when we picked up our “puppy” (90lb German Shepherd/lab), she had the name Stiptoe. The rescue said that it had no significance, the foster mom just thought it sounded neat.
She’s Addie now.

@Jijitattoo: I really like Berkeley.
I’m not sure what type of name you’re looking for though. Personally, I like my pets to have “people names” rather than what most people think of as “dog names” (like Spot, Floppy, or any sort of adjective/description really). I love names, but we’re CBC so I usually choose one of my favorite names for pets. I love Carter, Jackson (Jack), Eli, and the list goes on and on. Lol
I think it’s great that you’re planning to rename him. My girl came from a sad situation and we renamed her. Anytime the old name, Sydney, is mentioned (like if someone asks what it used to be, which is rare since we’ve had her over two years, thankfully) she gets visibly upset, whines, etc. This went so well for her that we renamed our boy we adopted 6 months later also. He adapted quickly and well too. They’re our Jane and Avery now.

Thanks guys for the suggestions!!! We pick him up at five tonight. I definitely like people names. Dusty is very cute, but I am not sure about the image he would have. lol…(since my teens call dirty people “dusters”).
I like Diego…very very cute. Leaning that way right now, I definitely want something that says “california”.
I love that he is from there as so is my moms side of the family.
Any other suggestions? My FI is stuck and so am i!! Ive been googling like crazy lol
