I wanna see 'em! I just tried on my mom's dress tonight, upon her prompting, and was shocked she had it neither cleaned nor preserved! It was spotted and faded a lot :( But I guess they couldn't afford that when they got married at 18, lol. It fit decently, actually, a bit loose and a bit too tight in the bust (uh...yay?!), and is perfectly 1979. Here are pics of me in my mom's getup, dress, bolero, hat with veil, drawstring bag, and all.

Lol!
Of course she got all emotional when I tried it on and was kind of hinting that I should wear it...uh no mom, it's a little trashed :P. But I kind of loved the hat, it had a really Victorian feel, even though it was totally squished from being in the bag.
So what about y'all? Did you try on your mom's dress? Have pics? Or just have pics of your mom in her dress? I wanna see!
Oh ma gosh that is soooo pretty! My momma's is a total 80's dress big shoulder pads and all something along these lines (got the pic from google lol)

Well hey, if the train's like that, at least it had something going for it :D
My mom also had a mauve 80's shoulder pads bridesmaid dress in the bag...I asked her why the hell she kept it. Hahaha.
My mom wore a red skirt, a peasant blouse and a crown of daises. My dad wore a baby blue polo shirt and khakis. They got married in my grandparent's garden. It was pretty cute.
ILikePink--that's adorable! Did your parents get married in the late 60's?
And I LOVE your grandparents' pic. Was it the fifties? That's my favorite time period to see wedding pictures from. Your grandmother looks beautiful but pretty solemn, ha!
My parents in '78...it had sleeves and gathered at the wrist...my mom had it preserved, and we still have it, but she was is alot shorter than me and way smaller back then! Can't quite zip it up, but her something old i think I'll try to use her veil :)

Krispy--great pic!! Our moms had REALLY similar hairstyles, which I suppose isn't too surprising since they got married one year apart! Also diggin' your dad's white tux with black trim. :D
Great thread. I'll have to try my mom's on when I go home this summer. Her and my stepdad got married in the mid-eighties, but her dress was very classic as far as I can remember from pics. Peach and lacy. Hmmmm... maybe I should have tried it on before I bought mine.
My mom still has her dress, but a few years ago, she ripped it up and poured fake blood all over it to be a zombie bride for Halloween.
This is her in her dress, January 1973. It's hard to see the detail, but look how beautiful she was!

@veganglam- So you totally look like Jordanna Brewster in those pics. lol. But how fun trying on mom's dress. My mom was married in her army uniform so no pics but this is a fun board.
Here's my mom and dad in 1969:

My mom with my grandfather, who I think was old school movie star handsome! If I have boys I hope they get his genetics!!!

This one shows the daisies on my mom's dress and veil best.

I tried on my mom's dress and it came to about mid-calf on me, she's about 6"shorter than I am. It was pretty hilarious! Plus the neckline just didn't look right, I mean really, everything was 6" higher than it was supposed to be. My mom really wanted me to figure out a way to make it work, but it just wasn't going to happen. I'm taking some of the daisies off her dress though and incorporating them into my bouquet :)
Awesome thread by the way! Great idea veganglam! I think your mom's dress (maybe minus the hat ;) ) looks beautiful on you!
I stopped fitting into my mums dress when I was about 11. Im adopted so were not genetically related. So I dont think there was a chance I couldve fitted it! Love this thread!!
here's my grandparents (dad's mom/dad) - 1936

my mom's mom/dad 1941

and my mom/dad 1972
and - last but not least - my GREAT grandparents - 1914

i LOVE everyone's pics!
@June bride - That's amazing how many generations of photos you have!!! I love your grandfather rockin the white shoes!
i have to add, it woulda been SO cool to have one of their dresses... :p
i was talking with a friend though - who recently got married herself - she's thinking of selling her dress - as am i, after my wedding - so my daughter won't have it...but i know she'd want her own anyways.
but i LOVE everyone's pics!
thanks bakerella! yeah, and i'm still trying to figure out exactly how to incorporate them into OUR wedding (picture frames on the guestbook table i think). the only one i have from his family is his real mom/dad...(his real mom died when he was 11).
i have a few others from my family as well - i'm HUGE into my genealogy and have SO many pics from the past!
Wow. I love all of the pictures. I dont think I have ever seen a wedding picture of anybody in my family, ever.
@June Bride - Have you thought about doing a photo-type family tree to display? I was thinking about displaying photos of our married guests at their weddings. I have some great inspiration photos from different blogs. PM me with your email and I can send them to you if you're interested! It sounds like something your guests would appreciate!

This is a family photo from the 40s, I have no idea who the couple getting married is. My grandmother is in the back row, third from the left, my grandfather is the tall guy on her right. I suspect my dad is the little boy on the bottom left corner, and my aunt is the little girl beside the bride, and my other aunt is in the middle row second from the right. No one looks very happy, LOL!
i have a family photo like that - i swear i think they weren't ALLOWED to smile...the pic has just about the same amount of people and NO one is smiling.
@JuneBride: That is SO cool that you have all those! I wish I had pics like that!
Here's my mom rocking her dress in 1979... don't you just LOVE the photo effects on the train?? LOL.

haha, she's FLYING ddubzz!!!!
my mom rented her dress and she only has one photo and it's at home. she was married in 1984 with the puffy sleeves and everything.my dad had a white tux on with ruffles. THey took a photo in front of this panel of mirrors so there's them in the middle and then 8 or 9 reflections of them going down the line =].
@ddubzz that is AWESOME! :D
Everyone's mom's are beautiful! I will have to scan a pic of my mom when I get on the other computer!
My mom has no wedding photos! My dad and grandpa convinced her to agree to have their wedding photos taken in 3D (in 1957!) and the resulting photos couldn't be viewed without some kind of crazy contraption, which they stopped making shortly after the wedding. So sad!
@VeganGlam, My parents were married in 1981, and my grandparents were married in 1945.
@JuneBride_26June2010 People didn't smile because the camera took ahile to take the picture, and it's too hard to hold a smile for very long.
Ilikepink, I believe that although that was true at one point, by the 1940s cameras were fairly advanced. I would guess that the lack of smiles in the photo above has more to do with culture than anything. Where was it taken?
What an awesome thread! All of the photos are lovely!
snmcdowell - That's so weird!
My parents don't have any photos either because they got a friend to take the pictures (to save money), and he accidentally exposed the rolls of film to light afterwards!
Thanks for posting those pics, veganglam. I'm kind of curious as to what I would look like in my mom's dress.
My mom and I haven't ever been the same size (although she's getting closer to my size these days...) so even if she still had her dress, I'd never in a million years have fit into it (she burned it after my parents divorce.)
As you can see from this [just scanned] wedding photo, my mom was the original mis-matched bridesmaid bride! :) I am the akward girl in pink with bangs in from (I was 5 at the time), my sister is the tall young girl on my mom's right (your left) with black hair and a white dress. NO idea who the BMs are!
My parents don't have a lot of pictures from their wedding either. The pictures they have were taken by my uncle because the person who was supposed to take them, ruined the pictures!
Oh man! I didn't realize this thread took off!!! I love it. Please keep posting your pics ladies, your mamas looked awesome and I love seeing the wedding dress styles through the decades. I have to see if I can find pics of my mom in her dress...it looked much less costume-y on her than it did on me.
I just e-mailed my Mom to see if she has any of hers! lol. I love all of these! They are amazing!
