Hi ladies, I'm perusing some dresses, and wondered if y'all can help me out. If I get married in the courthouse, I decided that I'll still want to get a nice dress (but maybe not wedding-caliber-expensive) to wear. We'd probably have some photos taken there, but I'd also want to wear it as one of my outfits for a couple-photoshoot (like an engagement shoot but after the marriage) we'd get later afterward for our announcement cards and to frame.

I love all of these, but don't have a nordstrom anywhere close to me, so I'd have to order online. So I'm wondering if anyone has photos of yourself or a friend wearing any of these? If possible, can you tell me how tall the person is too? (I'm 5'10").The Tiered Gown is my favorite, but it's at the top of my price range of what I'd spend for this type of dress. It's still on my list though, and would definitely be on my list for a wedding too. I love how it's both simple, and fancy/delicate. Anyway, hit me with your pics, please.

Or, if you've tried them on, how'd they look on you? I'm an hourglass/pear (34/30/40) and I'm 5'10''. But I'm trying to improve those bottom two numbers a little (hoping to be more like 27/37). I'm also open to other colors (specifically green or brown) and other suggestions.

Why not just order all 3 and return the ones that don't work out?

I voted for the first dress and I think after your courthouse ceremony you should shorten it and possibly even dye it so you can turn it into a LBD that you can rewear often & maybe to other weddings!  I chose it because I've worn a similar dress, but it was short and I really liked it, plus I also like the neckline on it.

Either way, I suggest you order several options and whatever you end up not liking you can just send back, Nordy's has THE BEST return policy, and it's so easy for stuff you order online!

I'm pretty sure that first dress is Mrs. Seabreeze's dress or looks very similar to it.

Someone is selling that second dress in the classifed section.  Here's the link to the ad: http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/lovely-bcbg-wedding-dress-for-sale

And a link to the pictures of the dress: http://bluedaisyblog.com/janicejack-2/

ooooh, I love the second dress, but the third is also very lovely if the cost is an issue.

Those are all beautiful! I voted for the third one, mostly cause I'd be concerned that the layers on the first two could add bulk around your hips. Bit they're all gorgeous, I know you'll be beautiful no matter which one you pick!

@doctorgirl - me too. ohmy, me too.

@snmcdowell - I would definitely do that. I'm kinda hard to fit. But I'd still like to see some eyecandy and opinions! ;)

@lillindy - I'm even up for actually BUYING it in black or brown or green instead of ivory - they do have one - in short or in long. No reason it really has to be white. This green is gorgeous too

Here's a shorter ivory/champagne one (I don't really like my knees though, and I think dresses that short make me look too big in the hips, so I'd have to have it tea length at least)
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3017698?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=laser+cut+in+All+Categories&origin=searchresults

@quiche, melodicsighs1, driftslikesmoke, and liz.smith, I think number 3 is definitely the 'budget choice' versus 2. And I also (like you pointed out, liz) don't know how those layers would look on my body type. I would definitely have to order multiple dresses and possibly multiple sizes.  I have tried on one laser-cut style dress before (at macy's) and I thought it looked HOT. So that's encouraging.

@elle, thanks for the link! It looks like she sold it (and she seems to be a lot more petite than I, though I didn't see the size). She said she's 5'3" and wore 3" heels, so that'd make her 4 inches shorter than me (if i was barefoot and she in her heels), and it looks like the dress was still a tad long for her (dragging on the ground in some pics). So that's helpful - maybe it wouldnt' be too short for me. The first dress does kinda look like seabreeze's, but hers was fancier (more 'weddingy' I think, with a train, etc). I loved her dress!

I think for this type of occasion, I'd like a dress that's a little fancier than just a 'sundress' or something, etc... but I don't necessarily want it to be something I could never wear again. My friend has an ivory knee-length dress like that first one, and she did not buy it for a wedding/etc - she looks great when she wears it!

    Hi,

Let me say that I love BCBG dresses.  I love them so much that I purchased 2 for my upcoming ceremonies.  I purchased the 3rd dress for a private outdoor corthouse ceremony.  I purchased a size 10 and at the time, it fit beautifully.  The only problem is that I am losing weight and am now in a size 8, so I will probably sell mine.  I am almost 5' 6"" and the dress is a little long for me.  I almost wish I had purchased a petite, even though I don't wear petites in regular clothing.  Look on the Nordstrom website for info on seam length.  I found this pretty accurate and wish I had paid more attention to this detail.  The dress is very flattering for different types of figures because of the way the chiffon hangs.  Because it has an empire waist it really makes your legs look LONGGG and beautiful!

I purchased mine ebay for a fraction of the cost and the dress is brand new.  I will probably sell it for something like $75, just to recoup some of the cost if anyone is interested.  I hate to part with it, but I will probably just buy it in a smaller size.  I don't have a photo of me in the dress, but can probably take one for you and send it if you would like - pm me.

I am having a second church ceremony and am soooo close to purchasing the 1st dress for the ceremony.  I tried it on this weekend and LOVED IT.  It is so elegant and resembles a few wedding dresses that I saw in magazines.  It is not a mermaid style, which definitely helps if you want to hide your hips (which I do : )).  I say that you can't go wrong with any BCBG dress that you purchase.

I love the last dress -- so sweet and simple without looking like a layered wedding cake!  I tried on the second one because I thought it might be nice for my rehearsal dinner, but it looked horrible on me!

    I vote numero 3!

And like Lillindy said about the other dress, I think this one could be shortened too if need be.

Just like it.  Very cute!  I love number 1, but it seems a bit formal for a courthouse.  3 seems a bit more relaxed yet elegant and would move around great/fluid for the photoshoot!

Hi I'm selling the third dress - see my classifieds if anyone's interested - here is a photo-

    http://i42.tinypic.com/j81bh1.jpg

As you can see, way too long on me, I'm 5'6".

I agree with Liz.smith, I saw a girl trying on dress #1 at the BCBG store in Tysons Corner and it totally made her rear end look ginormous. But with dress #3 spanx are necessary as well, as its flowy and doesn't have a giant tulle skirt to hide the hips.

By the way, I bought #3 originally cause I was planning on doing a small ceremony like you, but then the guest list got bigger, and so did my dress.
    Hope that helps!

I saw somebody in the 1st dress {it was a dark blue though} on Friday and it's cute, but you can see through the fabric between the layers. It's mesh or something between the layers, so every time she sat down and stood back up, the layers would mess up and you could see her skin...or underwear, which is how we figured it out. It also ripped by the zipper the first time she wore it. She's a tiny girl and it fit her perfectly, so we think the quality was just bad.

naomi3 - what exactly does spanx do? I guess I've seen people talk about them, but I always thought it was some kind of compression underwear like control-top panty-hose - designed to squish what wasn't meant to be squished? lol. I would definitely have to be happy with the way it looked/felt without special undergarments - for any of the dresses. I don't want to have an enormous-looking butt either, that's for sure!

KateMW - are you sure it was a bcbg? My friend has one and she loves it (a shorter version). But yeah, same goes as for the fit - I'd definitely want to make sure that it looked good AND was good quality, expecially if I'm spending tons of money on it. I can be forgiving on quality if it's a cheap dress, but man, a see-through/ripping $300 dress is NOT ok with me!

I bought some not name brand spanx - at Target - and they are like cut off pantyhose, but tighter, they are short, like the length of bike shorts. I was totally opposed to the idea at first too, but when I tried the dress on in front of other people they suggested it, since I have a little bulge under my belly button. The only area I carry extra lbs! But it did make a difference, they kept the bump from being visible without wearing full length pantyhose, since I'm getting married in August! They are not any more uncomfortable than pantyhose, but I know what you mean, its not necessarily an accessory you want to wear.

It really depends on your body, you may not need anything, but I found with any dresses I tried on that were not poufy there was a bump there on my belly that I don't need to be misconstrued as a baby bump!

In the dress I bought for the wedding - DB 8076 - that bump was more hidden under the tulle and ruching.

Here's my DB dress - I wasn't wearing the spanx under it.

Marquise, Spanx (for me) just kind of hold in and smooth out all your lines. It can make a softer, slightly lumpier silhouette look more sleek and trim. If you get the right size for your body, it shouldn't be terribly uncomfortable. Not to the point where it's rearranging your internal organs or anything. ;)

Hmmmm. This is something i'll have to consider if I end up in a more form-fitting dress. I've definitely got areas that could use a little improvement.

I'm not sure if you already bought the dress or not but...

I just bought #1 a couple weeks ago!

It is so comfortable and really has a great fit.  I find that it looks better if you have a little curve.

    Hope that helps!

Miss Mary Jane - I'm not sure if you already bought a dress or not, but I got #3 for my wedding on May 30th.  I absolutely love it.  It's so comfortable and silky!

I am not sure this picture thing will work, but if not, email me saranightly @ yahoo.com and I will send you the pictures.

The picture is from October when I first got it in the mail.  I got it off ebay for $178!  It's very wrinkled, but will be steamed before the wedding.
