We had our engagement pictures done two months ago. I liked some of the pictures. The things that I disliked are my fault: outfit choice, supressed smiles, hair not being done by a professional, and the angles of many of the pictures. I hate pictures from my right side and straight-on. My right eye never grew, and consequently it is a “baby eye.” That side of my face is also noticably smaller, especially in pictures. Pictures from that side always look bad to me (it is hard to describe). From a straight-on perspective, the asymmetry of my face in photos bothers me. I only feel this way about my own pictures. I didn’t say anything before the engagement shoot, which is why I blame myself for not liking some of some of the pictures due to the angles.
My question: Is there a polite way to ask my photographer to mostly take pictures from my left side during getting ready pictures, formal pictures, and when possible during the reception? Should I not say anything, and let her take all of the pictures however she can capture them?

I think you can just explain it to the photographer the same way you explained it here. It’s something you are sensitive about and you’d appreciate if the majority of photos could be taken on your “good” side.

One of my friends got married in May, and she told the photographer to only photograph her on one side, as she always liked that side better. They should be able to compensate, and it usually isn’t a problem.

nerdybee: i told my photographer that i had a “good side” (i have a scar that isn’t super noticeable but i always look at on one side of my face), and he positioned us so that my good side was always the one showing/prominent for our wedding photos. i had also said this for our engagement photos, and they were decent, but the wedding photos are a thousand times better. by the end of the day, he was even joking “is that your good side?” before we started taking shots. i think it’s totally okay to tell your photographer that you’d prefer to be shot from the other side- once they know about it they really try because they want you to love your pictures. 🙂

Yep- I have one side I prefer, and brought samples to show our photographer the difference. The majority of our photos were from the angle I preferred- the exception was for some of the candids, but those ended up fine.

I have a better side too! My right eyebrow droops low so I have a hooded lid on that one but not on the left. I also prefer no full side pictures because I have a big nose with a hump. I plan on telling my photographer. And it’s completely normal to tell them those kinds of things!

Your photographer can accomodate this for sure. You can even just copy and paste what you posted!
