I'm looking for cake inspiration pictures. However, I do not like fondant. At all. I absolutely do not want fondant on my wedding cake. I'm aware of the rather extensive photo gallery on TheKnot, but it seems like the majority of those cakes use fondant. I'm looking for what I can expect a bakery to be able to do with just buttercream frosting. I don't want it to look all fancypants - the taste of my cake is waaaaaay more important to me than how it looks.

So, are there any photo galleries of cakes that don't use fondant? Help me, bees!

This is my first time posting but this is also something I can help with. There is a bakery near me that is known for their signature buttercream frosting so most of their cakes are buttercream with ssome fondant exceptions.

    Hope this helps and works.

    Here's a few:

This one has gorgeous buttercream cakes but they are mixed in with fondant, so you have to click on each description to see which is which:

My baker does not use fondant at all. He has the most delicious buttercream frosting.  He has a lot of pictures of his work on his website.

I don't want fondant either and I'm really getting into buttercream cakes with some texture to the icing. Here are a few pics I've collected.

We are having a butter cream cake.  The only fondant used is flowers for decoration.  Here is the website: www.augustacakes.com

My bff also had a no fondant cake.  She didn't use a baker, someone just made it for her.

I like this cake because its so simple, but it tasted AMAZING. It was so fresh & you rarely see fresh fruit on wedding cakes like this... It was for a small wedding with about 50 people.

Sorry for the phone photo :)

I am part of the anti-fondant club too! I think it sucks all the moisture out of the cake, not to mention, taste's horrible (sorry to those who disagree). Here's our cake. Though the top teir appears to be fondant, we'll be using frosting.

Check out projectwedding.com, they have great pics!

Their frosting. My "cake guy" says they are a rosette with a frosting tip.

@corrc: oh I'm surprised... it looks very stiff. I was sure it was mini gumpaste carnations! It's a very modern & fun design :) I love it!

    wow gorgeous!

here's one i saw in the bios: http://bios.weddingbee.com/topic/all-white-buttercream-wedding-cake-with-peonies-on-top

our friends surprised us with a super cute cake for our travel theme (we had a french dessert platter instead of cake), but it was fondant.
visually so cute but too bad it wasn't as yummy.

And @OttawaBride2011: Those are gorgeous, especially the first one.

Wow. After pretty much giving up on having a cake, I think I'm back on the bandwagon. Mmmmm ... buttercream :)

We aren't having fondant, either. My FI hates it and I don't really care for it much myself. We are going to get our cake through Buttercream, which is the second link that Circus Peanuts posted. I love their cakes and they only use buttercream, hence the name of the bakery. I think you can get beautiful cakes that have the look of fondant with buttercream that tastes so much better.

Believe it or not, the majority of the cakes found online are actually buttercream, not fondant.

    Some sites as examples:

My cake did not have any fondant, it was just buttercream and it had shells that were white chocolate dusted with lusterdust.  I dont like fondant either, its chewy and nonflavored when you eat it or you pull it off and its a big mess!  Im a huge buttercream fan though, I eat frosting out of the can haha.  Buttercream can have a very smooth look to it where you dont need fondant.  Here are some pics of my cake:

Unless you want an exact recreation of Cinderella's castle done in cake or something, I think they can do just about anything with buttercream that they could do with fondant! Again, the one exception probably being crazy cake sculptures.

I think the trick is to make the accent pieces (sea shells, polka dots, whatever,) out of gum paste, fondant, or whatever. These pieces can easily be picked of when serving the cake! Also, buttercream can be airbrushed, stenciled, etc., for all sorts of dramatic effect!

I love all the cake pics ladies - gorgeous!

I really wanted a wedding cake that had the smooth, clean look of fondant, without the awful gummy texture and taste of fondant.  So, i found a bakery that had developed its own special butter cream frosting frosting that looked like fondant.  I also like very clean, simple details - and I loved how my cake came out.  Here is a pic:

Go with buttercream all the way.  If it hasn't already been said enough, here.  lol!  Here's mine...you can't really see the neat texture on the first and third layer in this one, but it was the best I could do on short notice. :)

Wow! I'm getting hungry looking at all the awesome cakes. I'm one of the weird people that actually likes fondant (as long as they put a layer of buttercream underneath!) and my baker actually makes her own fondant, which is rare. Circus Peanut actually posted a link to her site: www.sedonaweddingcakes.com

I do love all the designs with the textured buttercream, though!

Wow I love this thread. I hate fondant too, it doesn't taste good. For my cake we are planing on using a coating of buttercream and then covering the cake in shavings of white chocolate all over. Its gonna look really cool and different. I wish I had a picture to show you guys.

I had *no idea* you could get buttercream that smooth! You ladies have shown me the way - it's Buttercream or Bust! :)
