    It may look prettier, but I'm not about to pay more money on something that most people just peel off.

    Here the cake I am planning to do for our wedding, it's covered with buttercream. I could do fondant, but buttercream will be easier to do and tastier.

    I think buttercream cakes can be even prettier. :) Here are the cakes we're going to try to make for the wedding: (ALL from iambaker.net)

    @KendallR10: if you look at the 1st, 3rd, and 5th tiers of the cake couawilou posted, i think that's about as smooth as buttercream gets... i think.  i could be wrong.

    @GeorgiaTeacup: I'm not sure, but here's the tutorial for the ROSE CAKE

    She also has a tutorial for how to do vertical layers (most cakes have horizontal). I highly recommend checking out the cakes on her blog. She does tutorials for most of them, too. Laughing

    I personally hate the taste of fondant and find that 'real' cakes look so much more authentic and beautiful. We are doing this sunflower cupcake/cake type thing..kind of hard to explain but will be cheap, easy and fit our sunflower/summer theme!Pictures of your non-fondant cake... : wedding cake buttercream fondant Cake

    I wish I could get on my other computer for a better shot, but ours was buttercream, not fondant. I'm really not a fan of it at all.

    Ours was made by a starter company and we paid next to nothing for it. We wanted it to taste good...we had buttercream icing with chocolate and white cake.

    @organizedbride11: you could eat it ... but it typically tastes really gross.  Marshmallow fondant is tolerable but is not as hardstanding as standard fondant.

    I actually really like the imperfect look of buttercream, or other non-fondant cakes.  We're having a version of buttercream for ours...will post pics after next weekend!!

    @missbeachbum: Cupcake-cakes! :) They're pretty rad if done well.

    I don't know what the hell kind of frosting we had, but it wasn't fondant. We had little monogrammed petit fours made at a local grocery store.

    DH has never liked fondant, so we chose buttercream in a simple textured design. It was light and smooth and yummy as hell.
