I have always struggled with adult acne. I tend to get pimples around my chin. These suckers just DO NOT go away! I guess you can categorize them as cystic so it is very hard to cover…and it takes weeks, if not months to go away :(. I am running out of time…my wedding is in just over a month and my chin has broken out like crazy. Anyone with this problem have any suggestions?!?!?!

@SimplyMrsC: What are you currently using on your skin? Any medicated products for your chin? I always get pimples on my chin when I’m on my period. Seeing a dermatologist can be pricey, but if your in that big of a panic might be your best option. This is what I do for my acne!
The best thing I use for my skin has glycolic acid, or salycic acid in it. I have been using Alpha Hydrox glycolic acid cream and my skin is so much better now. I was breaking out like crazy but its unbelievable how much the glycolic and salycic acid help.

Walmart (and probably other drugstores) sell over-the-counter heat treatment kits. I haven’t used them, just read about them in an article. They were really highly rated as an overnight fix for inflamed acne. I forget the brand names they tested, but one of them was kinda like hot shot (but not the bug bomb brand!). It was around $20 for a couple of treatments, I think.
Good luck! Acne sucks.

see a dermatologist, especially if it’s cystic. If the cysts are not treated properly, they will scar, and the scars really never go away (I’ve had Co2 laser treatments and the best is will do is make is look better). Luckily the treatment has improved since the 70’s. (However, at age 54, I still get breakouts, and it can’t possibly by cyclic, because I’m post meno 4 years now). My dr. gave me a gel version of Benzoyl peroxide that is on prescritpion that works better than anything I ever used over the counter.

@SimplyMrsC: I have developed wonderful adult onset acne. Your post reminded me to make a derm appt, thanks!
I have tried a ton of different things. What seems to be working for me is Kate Somerville daily detox face wash with a deep pore cleansing clarisonic, every 2 days exfoliating with Kate Somerville- Exfolikate, then I do a toner of either- apple cider vinegar mixed with non alcoholic witch hazel or peroxide right on my face. Then I moisturize with some $9 stuff from whole foods that doesn’t clog pores and has aloe in it to soothe. I also take my make up off as soon as I get home with a mixture of coconut oil and castor oil.
I just started the peroxide treatment and I feel it’s working but I don’t want to jinx it. It makes tons of sense though. The peroxide cuts through the bacteria and helps to bring oxygen to the pore.

I was using proactiv for a very long time and it worked okay. I had to use retin-a for periods at a time througout the last couple of years. I stopped using both of these because products because 1. the proactiv seemed to not be working as well as before and 2. The retin-a caused too many beauty restrictions, made my skin very dry and irritated (for the 1st few months). I don’t want to start using the retin-a again because once you stop and start again it is like starting all over with the severe peeling, redness, irritation and your skin gets A LOT worse before it gets better…but this takes months. I tried switching to clinique 2 months ago and I feel like my acne is not reacting well to it. So I have switched back to proactic this week. I also use a clarisonic once a week. UGH. I hate to keep switching stuff around so close to the wedding day because you never know how your skin is going to react…so I am a little afraid. But these pimples just will not do.

@SimplyMrsC: What state are you in? A good facial with serious pore purging will definitely help!

my problem area is also my chin.
i use Acnefree (can be found at drug stores and walmart). because i have sensitive skin, i only used it once a day (instead of twice). also, try to avoid laying your chin on your hands (which is a habit of mine).
