I am sorry, but I have to agree with your mom. Maybe have the girls just carry one flower or three flowers. The flowers can just be wrapped with a simple ribbon with a bow.
I agree with your mom as well. I've never been a fan of black and brown mixed together. They just don't seem to go well in my opinion. Fake flowers or single flowers are a good alternative option.
I would think it would be YOU that should stand out, and the brown pinecones against your dress would be beautiful! And seriously, you`re the bride, and the star of the show.
The brown pinecones against your maids dresses would also be lovely, and would be a perfect backdrop to you :)
I would use a combination of pine cones and real touch flowers to get a little more variation in texture.
That being said, you could always appease your mom by having a lighter colored ribbon stem, or lighter colored greenery in your maids bouquets.
I like the idea. Brown against black is a very elegant color combination.
Here's an old post:http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/alternative-bridesmaid-bouquets-for-christmas-wedding
Like this pic you can always add ribbon or a vintage hankie
Here are other wedding ideas using pinecones:

I love the looks of pine cone bouquets! They're interesting in of themselves. :)
I think the idea is good. Maybe you could add some other tree objects to them or maybe some long grasses such as wheat sheaths or something. Just to break it up a little and add a little bit to it. But if it's what you like then you should stick to it!
Maybe you can add some red hypericum berries to it so it's not just all brown.
I love the idea.. its totally cute :) I do like the idea of the berries though! But you're the only one who needs to stand out..
I think it's cute! I would probably put some dark green glitter on them for some color and shine but they look great plain too!
I love the idea of the pinecones but I would mix other things into the bouquets to give them a little life.![]()
Thanks for the input ladies!
I think I agree with many of you - I need to mix something else with the pinecones to add more texture and colour.
@Cant_wait: thaks for all the pics! I'm surprised I haven't come across them with all my google image searches!
@Telly: oooh! I had this pine cone someone made and it had glitter on it!
They rolled the pine cone in glue then in glitter! I'll bet you could also spray paint them, too.
I've seen silver and gold plated jewelry and some of it was pine cone pieces and flower petals. Not to mention the silver/gold pine cone sprays I've seen in craft stores!
If I were doing it, I would play around with the spray paint and glitter.
I love glittered pinecones, still debating whether to add flocked/glittered pinecones to our Winter wedding or just stick with the red poinsettias... hmmmm....
What if you sprayed some kind of craft glitter on the pinecones so they stand out a little more?
I like the idea of the pinecones. They are adorable. But I'm a little iffy on the pinecones with the black dresses. I'm one of those people though that doesn't like mixing black and brown! I think that I'd have to see it. I kind of like the idea of the pinecones with some grasses and some flowers. You could always use real touch flowers, if it's out of your budget. I like these 2 pics. Maybe your mom would be more open to that idea!

I love pinecone bouquets. However, I do agree with your Mom. You won't notice the beauty & simplicity of the pinecone bouquet with your bridesmaids wearing black. I do like bluebirds bouqyet suggestion above.
I have never been a big fan of having flowers 'stand out'. I like flowers to be accessories to the dresses and not huge focal points. therefore, I think your vision will be beautiful!
I was thinking of babys breath with pinecones. ??? Or even some greens added to keep the cost low, but add some color??
@bluebird615: That first pic is actually what inspired my theme and will be the bouquet I am getting the florist to replicate for me!
It was my original plan for us to all have flowers like that pic but I thought it could be a nice cost cutting idea to use pinecones. I will probably just have smaller arrangements for the BM's.
Thanks for all your input ladies. I think I will end up nixing the idea but just wanted to confirm my reservations on the idea.
I just wanted to add that I think your inspiration bouquet with the pinecones, white flowers and pine greens is absolutely gorgeous! Nice choice :)
I didnt read all the posts so if i am repeating stuff sorry...what if you added some glitter to add sparkle. or some kind of shimmer stuff!!!
My theme was also fully packed with pinecones:

(there were 2 "snowy" pinecones in the bouquet as well)

Our wedding is in February and we are having a pine cone/ Evergreen theme. During my search for inspiration I found this picture online and loved the idea to have pine cone bouquets for the BM's. 1. because it totally goes with our theme. 2. it saves us more money on flowers (especially seeing as they are soooo expensive in Feb) and 3. It means I can still have a "traditional" bouquet for myself
The only problem is that when I showed it to my Mom, she told me they were too plain and thought there wouldn't be enough contrast between the bouquet and dress (black dresses). I don't necessarily disagree but now I'm not sure if its as good an idea as I originally thought...
What do you ladies think? I would appreciate any input
