@glimmerybride:  You could have told them in equally snotty terms that you already had a drastically less expensive quote and if you really want you can see if they will work with you to get any closer to that lower quote. Really though, it sounds as though you dodged a bullet- the do not sound like someone I would want working on my face & hair on my wedding day with that attitude!

The first quote seems pretty reasonable- that’s $70 (US) for each service for each person….

@BeckyS0:  The first one is actually $140 (420/3).

ETA: Which if we’re talking on location or with airbrush makeup and hair I still don’t think is bad!

EDited again! Sorry I just saw you meant $70/person/service!!

@glimmerybride:  Maybe they weren’t trying to be snotty, just wanted to win your business and let you know that was the going rate in your area!  I have people laugh at my bosses rate (a lawyer) every day and I let them know given his experience and what they’re looking for we’re about average!  I hope they don’t think I’m being snotty…..

@BeckyS0:  I agree. ~$70 per person seems pretty reasonable for hair and makeup.

But yes, that was super snotty and I would have a hard time not being snotty right back to them.

ETA: Just saw that it’s not actually $70, but more like $140. That seems high to me, but it might just be customary where you live.

Also ETA, I want to add that if you had gone off on them about how unreasonable their prices were or something like that, then their reaction was probably warranted. But if all you did was say that they were out of your price range, but thank you, then I think it was a little snotty.

@glimmerybride:  You’re having 3 hairdos and makeup changes?  I’m confused.

If so, that means they would have to stay with you all night to make the changes, hence their price.

@glimmerybride:  Ok, so that’s why they’re charging so much!

@glimmerybride:  Isn’t it really up to me if I want to hire them or not and to find someone cheaper? And not their job to tell me that their charging me ‘too cheaply’. Because they’re really not?

Yes, it is up to you if you want to hire them, I am not disagreeing with you there.

I paid US$1600 for my MUA to stay all day…..

It doesnt justify their snotty responses but I dont think the prices are that crazy

@glimmerybride:  Just let it go. When I was planning my wedding, if someone tried to tell me “it was a deal” then they were automatically out of the running. *I* decided what the deals were. Coincidentally, the worst came from a cake decorator who a)didn’t read my e-mails and I had to send the same detail for the quote like 3 times and b) seriously quoted me $300 dollars for a 6 inch (yes, that’s right, a small round) cake with a few flowers. I found another baker that did the exact same decoration but probably better AND delivered the cake for $90.

It’s so annoying – I’m sorry. But I think it just highlights that you don’t want to work with them.

Those prices are reasonable for that you’re asking. And I don’t think their replies are that snotty, based on what you’ve written. I think you would be hard pressed to find anything drastically cheaper for the same level of service.

But ultimately it’s up to you to decide what you want, and if someone is rude, just don’t reply. Not like you’re going to ever need to communicate with them again.
