Yay for a recpeption at the Scottish Rite Cathedral!  Where inside are you planning to have it?  I loved the set-up in the lobby.  It was a little crowded, but I think it is beautiful.

I’m drawing a blank on good outdoor locations near New Castle. Pearson Park, maybe?

Have you looked into using the Alpine Room at the SNPJ? It’s pretty close to New Castle. We had our outdoor wedding under the pavilion there ($400 including set up/take down of wooden chairs) and our reception in the Alpine room (~$35pp, including 5 hours open bar and all tips/taxes/etc). Good luck!

@XxMyXxDecemberXx: If you only have $5000 to work with and you really don’t want to have all those people there explain to your parents it just isn’t possible to have THAT many people with THAT budget and that you’ll have to have a smaller wedding!

I don’t know the New Castle area at all (sorry!)…I’m not originally from the ‘Burgh and since moving here (i.e. going to college down here) almost 5 years ago I’ve only lived in the city.

But if you have your heart set on an outdoor wedding that might not actually be the least expensive route.  If you don’t have an indoor backup plan you basically have to rent a tent ($$$$$$$$) or else there won’t be a ceremony if its raining.

Good luck though!

Wow..sorry about the multi-post.   No clue why that happened!

Anyway, are you dealing with Frank at Medure’s for catering?  I had some trouble with communicationing with him early on, but once I was about 6 months out from my wedding date, it got better.  I think it’s because Frank does so much and has a lot of weddings going on at a few different venues in the area (especially this time of year).  I never had a tasting because I’ve had their food a few times at other people’s weddings and I liked it.

Are you from the New Castle area?  To second JeniRae, SNPJ is a nice place and I’ve had some friends have an outdoor ceremony there.

Are you flexible with your date at all?  If so, Betsy’s Barn in Portersville, PA might be a good option for outdoor ceremony and a more affordable catering bill.  They only host weddings from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  I looked into them for our wedding, but my date was booked.
