what an awesome and helpful review!!! thanks for taking the time to put together.
FI and I have been living in Pittsburgh for the last year and a half (FI proposed here ), and although we'll be moving back home and having the wedding in Chicago, I want to take engagement pics here! I was looking for photographers and will DEF check yours out!
This is *exactly* the sort of post-event vendor review that this local board needs! I intend to do the same after my wedding, but thanks for (hopefully) getting the ball rolling. A lot of this would have been tremendously valuable to me a couple of months ago, as I started planning, and I bet it will be just as useful to other members of the Pgh hive.
this is a fantastic post! thank you! do you have a link to live love bead? i'm etsy challenged and i can't find her shop. thanks!!
Here is the link to her Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/livelovebead

I got married in the Pittsburgh area and we had some really great vendors whose names I wanted to pass along.
Planner/Day of Coordinator: Desiree Wienand, Hello! Productions; Desiree was amazing!!!! We had hired her as our DOC mainly for the reception but she helped us out at the church too, getting the ceremony started since they didn't have a wedding coordinator there. She was really organized, problem solved anything and everything that came up; at the reception there ended up being some confusion on the beer types that were to be provided and she negotiated with the reception hall to let us bring in some beer and she went out to pick it up for us. She helped me put my vision together and gave me great suggestions and recommendations. Everything was perfectly set up and ran super smoothly; we couldn't have been happier.
Stationer: Amy Bass, Nota Bene; I was able to get the most beautiful customized invitations with Amy's help. There was a specific font I wanted they I had on my computer when I started working on the invites and Amy made sure she could get a hold of it for me. I came up with the overall wording and design and Amy tweaked it to get it just right and fit the proper size cards. Initially I had seen a design I loved by one of the major companies but they were super expensive. By going through Amy with the customization we were able to save probably over $1000 and we got the pocketfolds I wanted which I wouldn't have been able to get with the initial set I saw.
Makeup: Kate Marshall, Airbrushing Beauty; Kate was recommended to me by my photographer. She is super sweet and she did a great job on our makeup (mine as well as my mother's and one of my bridesmaids). This was the first time I have been pleased with how someone else has done my makeup. We did get the airbrush makeup and it stayed on the whole day. She was reasonably priced especially considering that she traveled to the salon where we were getting our hair done.
Hair: Capelli's Salon Inc.; Everyone's hair in my party looked great. They were reasonably priced and our hair stayed in all day and even into the next morning. Mindy did my hair and really listened to what I wanted.
Jewelry: Lori Gardner, Live Love Bead; I actually found Lori through her shop on Etsy and saw she was located in Penn Hills. She customized my earrings and matching bracelet and also barrettes and a necklace for my flower girl. Her prices were awesome and she got the pieces to me super fast.
Photographer: Michael Schnelle, Apex Imaging Photography; I actually found Mike through his wife, who is one of my good friends and bridesmaids. Not only does he do great work (his storybooks are amazing), we literally could not have had the wonderful wedding we did without him. We had some hiccups with other vendors and he gave us recommendations, all of whom we ended up choosing (and I did look around quite a bit to see where I could get the best quality for the best price within our budget).
Linens: Gina, Connie Duglin Linens; Another linen company (that was actually recommended on here, not in Pittsburgh though) left me in a lurch and I was rushing around at the last minute to find linens. Gina got back to me very quickly and was super easy to work with. They were neither the most expensive nor the cheapest linens I found, but the quality of service and the quality of product were worth spending a little extra.
DJ: Eric Wenning, Wenning Entertainment; Eric and his assistant were PHENOMENAL. The dance floor was never empty from start to finish, he brought out party beads and leis, the playlist he picked was awesome and the one time someone suggested something he wasn't sure we would like he checked with us before playing it. He really got our guests involved and we've heard from numerous people how much they enjoyed him.
Reception Venue: Bethany Santa, Twelve Oaks Mansion; Great view, great food, great service, several different packages to pick from depending on how much you are looking to spend. They really let us make it our own with what we were allowed to bring in and how we wanted the reception to run. Their chef was very accommodating to our guests whom had different dietary needs. They have a pastry chef in house who is absolutely incredible. The cake was delicious and he nailed the design. Not sure what brand of champagne they served for the toast but it was terrific.
Bridal Party Limo: Epic Limo; traffic was terrible the day of the wedding and the driver called to let me know he was running behind and where he was; once we got picked up he made sure to take the quickest route possible so that we got to the church on time.
Shuttle from hotel to reception and back: Amore Limo; They let us split the time we were renting the shuttle so we weren't paying for time during the reception when no one would actually be using the shuttle.
**Flowers: Jennifer Gibbs, Details by J. Lynn; I found Jennifer's shop on Etsy and she was excellent to work with. She uses real touch flowers and people couldn't tell the difference unless they looked really close and touched them. She worked with me to customize my order and all the pieces (including the alter flowers) came out gorgeous.
