It would help to know what area you are in..
I am doing 75-100 guests on about $15000
@tinaspoon: I live in the city, but I'm open to having the wedding within about an hour or so from here. We're looking to have about 100, maybe as high as 150, guests.
I know you said you don't want a hotel banquet room but my reception will be at the holiday inn in moon twp - it's an all inclusive package that includes the cake, centerpieces, food, service, coordinator, 4 hours of open bar and some rooms included - check it out. It's approx $55-65 per person. Here's the link and some pictures. They have 2 ballrooms.. this is the room I am using (it's gorgeous!). Reconsider - it's great having everything in one package.

Also - you might want to consider Robert Morris University. My ceremony will be in their chapel but they also have an area you can rent. I am paying $800 for the chapel which includes the gardens for pictures. You can PM if I can be any more help

Congratulations on your engagement! I also wanted to stay away from the hotel banquet room feel so we looked primarily at more urban type venues and ended up booking at J. Verno Studios in the Southside. It was pricier that I had wanted... but we just loved it so much! I cut back on the flower and catering budget in order to have enough for the venue costs. It has a very Manhattan loft type feel, and you can get your own caterer and liquor for the bar to save some money. The Children's Museum venue price was pretty reasonable, and the space is trendy and quirky if that is the vibe you are looking for. There is a former Bee who had her reception there and blogged all about the budget breakdown, etc. You can get your own caterer and buy your own liquor here as well. We also liked the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts- the gallery rooms are quite the conversation starter- but didn't love the tent space. And of course there is Phipps, which speaks for itself. Our budget is 30k for 175 people

Hi everyone!
I just got engaged Thanksgiving weekend. I've started looking at venues to get an idea what type of budget we'll be working with. How much did your weddings cost? Any suggestions for venues? I'm hoping for a step up for the hotel banquet room reception, but getting really discouraged.
Thanks in advance!
