I have a friend who just gave birth and I would love to send a “home cooked” meal care package to their home. Something they can either reheat and eat that night or put in the freezer and reheat another night. I’m not from the area so I don’t know of any.
Does anyone know of a place like that in the Pittsburgh area?
They do tend to go more the local, organic homegrown route. But I’ll take any recos.

The only place that comes to mind is Honey Baked Ham.

I don’t know of anything like that in Pittsburgh, but it sounds like an awesome idea for a business. What about a gift certificate for a restaurant they like that delivers, or a more general “Wheel Deliver” sort of thing, to give them more options?
I hope someone else knows something that I don’t, because this sounds like a really sweet thing to do for a friend.
ETA: I just asked my husband, who has lived in Pittsburgh longer than I have, and there’s apparently a restaurant called DeFlavio’s On The Square Pizzeria ((412) 871-8923) that has a sign in their window indicating that they make meals that can be reheated. I cannot testify as to the quality of their offerings, but it might be worth a shot.

Thank you! I will look into it! 🙂
Good idea on the restaurant gift certificate.

They drive around in Pittsburgh. I’ve seen them. Never ordered from them, but their website looks awesome.

I would check out McGinnis Sisters! They are a small local gourmet grocery store that has several locations in the Pittsburgh area. I know that they make speciality meals for the holidays, and I have a feeling that they have a delivery service from the shop!

@Miss Tattoo: I didn’t realize they were in Pittsburgh. I used to get food from them when I lived in Minneapolis – it’s actually pretty good!

Thank you very much!
Is Schwan’s like a Omaha Steaks?

I’d look into McGinnis sisters as the previous poster stated, or try calling around to Italian pizza/pasta restaurants. I’m sure they have ready made options.
As far as local/organic- that’s a tough one. Try Good Apples- they are a delivery service that delivers local, organic groceries from Right by Nature in the Strip. I am not sure about prepared meals- I’ve only ever ordered produce & fruit from them. Other than that, I don’t know of another place. Good Luck!
