Things are only acceptable if they meet your standards! If you were having a stuffing, yuppity wedding - then maybe the pizza and beer thing would be a no-no, but bring it on. I can't wait to hear about how well it went!
We did it and we loved it. Very chill and fun and relaxing -- and if your out-of-town guests are arriving throughout the day/night they can just show up when they get in and not worry about missing out on dinner.
I think it's a great idea! If you have a lot of out-of-town guests, they might not be getting in until that day and would probably welcome the chance to relax at a more casual party than get dressed up and sit at a restaurant for hours after traveling all day. Even if you don't have a lot of out-of-town guests, it's still a great way to relax with your loved ones before the chaos of The Big Day.
