I have an etiquette/wording question. On the place cards that direct each individual/couple to their table, how should I qrite their names? (Of course this all depends on whether the partner has taken her husband’s name). In the invitations I sent out, the wording was formal (Mr. & Mrs. John Smith – when applicable).
1. Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
2. Mr. John Smith & Mrs. Jane Smith
3. John & Jane Smith

Just depends how formal you want to be. This is what we did:
STD: John & Jane Smith
Invitation: Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith
Escort card: John and Jane Smith
Place card: John Smith, Jane Smith (separate cards)

I’d do it the same way you did your invitations.

@LittleRiver: I am also leaning towards that option. I guess i’m just wondering if my older, more traditional guests will be offended by it…

@Petite_Fraise: Are you doing formal escort cards (e.g., tent style) or a more informal display (e.g., vintage tags, printed chart)? Part of the reason we’re doing John and Jane Smith is because the escort cards are printed on vintage library cards, so formal titles would look a bit silly.

@LittleRiver: We’re doing traditional tent-style. Would it be weird if some of the cards were formal and some a little more informal? Like what if I did a combo of this:
Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
John & Jane Smith

I just did separate cards for each individual. It was a lot, but we had to put meal choice indicators on each one anyway so every person had their formal name on there (e.g. Mrs. Jane Smith, Ms. Sally Jones, etc.). Haha sorry if that doesn’t really help. In your case, though, do the same format for every person/couple. If you go formal for some, go formal for all.

@Petite_Fraise: Personally, it would drive me bonkers to have some formal and some informal, although I doubt anyone else would notice! Since you’re doing traditional tent-style escort cards and have older guests, why not play it safe and use Mr. and Mrs.?

I won’t be bothering with titles. Everywhere I’m putting a guest’s name (invitations, seating chart, etc) it will just say John Smith or Jane Doe or whatever.
