Hi! My family and I will be visiting the great state of RI in about 2 weeks and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for things to do or restaurants to eat at. Newport Nuptials Fall 2010 Rhode Island / Massachusetts

What part of RI? I'm only familiar with Newport and Middletown, both are gorgeous and have so much to do.

If you end up in Newport here are some suggestions:

Touristy things: The Cliffwalk, Ocean Drive, Historic Preservation Society Mansion Tours, Trolley Tours, 1st 2nd or 3rd beach, Visit gonewport.com for more ideas

Restaraunts: 22 Bowen's, Castle Hill, Nory's, Brick Alley Pub, The Mooring, Bliss Cafe (great sandwiches)

Shops: On thames there are so many fun shops my favorites include Chace and Lulu, Frazzleberries and the Pink Pineapple

I traveled to Providence, RI for about a year, so although I never really lived there, I found some favorite spots:

My coworkers and I liked going to Federal Hill for dinner which is kind of a Providence version of Little Italy. There are many Italian restaurants, and in the summer there was usually music going on outside. My favorite dessert spot was called Pastiche.
Also, you should check if you will be there during WaterFire. That is a really neat event that goes on throughout the summer. They light bonfires on the river, and it makes everything seem so magical.
Finally, if you're feeling outdoorsy, we loooooooved going to Colt State Park. It's a bit of a drive but is right on the water and was an amazing spot for jogging, picnics, and BBQs!

Well, we are flying into Providence so we will definitely have to check on the Waterfire thing - it sounds amazing! We will actually be there for a family reunion (none of us are from RI, it's just a central location) so we are going to be there for a week so I'm sure there will be lots of exploring. Thank you for the Newport suggestions... the stores sound really cool just based on names so I will definitely have to check them out!

For Providence I completely agree with Linzella Pastiche is AMAZING! they have delicious desserts like a chocolate chip coconut cake and the best chocolate cake. Federal Hill has amazing restaraunts too and pretty decent prices, at least compared to the North End in Boston.
