The only issue I’ve found with PF is that if a machine breaks, it can take them a while to get it fixed. Aside from that, I’ve found it to be satisfactory for the price. The staff at mine is pretty friendly and they keep the place clean.

Does your insurance offer a fitness reimbursement? We get $$ back every year for our PF memberships.

I’ve been a PF member since September of last year, and I really like the gym!  The one that I go to is SUPER clean, really nice staff, big, light, open, etc. and the circuit training is really cool.

The only things that we don’t have there that we had at 24hr were cable TV, towel service, and group classes.  I’m only on the $10/month plan and I’m totally okay with that.

I used to belong to one. They were great! It’s very “no-frills”–mine didn’t have classes, no towel service, etc. but there was always a treadmill free and plenty of free weights. That’s all I needed and it was only 25$ a month which in DC is CHEAP!

Love it.  My last gym was $79 per month.  This is better, they rarely have machines down, fix them fast when they do, super Clean, friendly and even at peak times there are enoughmachines for everyone.

My mom has a PF membership and loves it. Very affordable, they have tanning, its clean ( although hers is new, so I don’t know about “older” ones). Can’t go wrong with that!

It’s no frills, but it gets the job done. I used them for a few years and was pleased with them, but I only use the cardio machines and weights. They didn’t have anything really for classes.

it might not be the best if you’re looking for classes, but it’s excellent if you just want access to workout equpment.  Great value for the money in that case.  “No frills” is a great way to put it.

PF does have a locker room with showers but you do have to bring your own locks.  They have all the machines and free weights you’ll probably need. The only part I didn’t really like was that hey didn’t have instructional group classes. Personally, I just paid to go to a class every now and then at another local gym and kept the low cost membership 🙂

I think planet fitness is a franchise so it can vary from gym to gym.

I belong to one and I have the black card, I can bring my husband in whenever he feels like going.  I mostly do classes elsewhere but I like to have the PF membership so H and I can go when we feel like jumping on a treadmill or an elliptical.  My problem with my PF is that a lot of the cardio machines squeak and need maintenance and they just don’t service them enough.  it can be annoying.

ETA – the weight machines are decent and the locker room area is nice.  mine also has free tanning which I don’t use.

@BostonBaby:  Like the PP said, they have showers and a locker room but you will need to provide your own lock. I’m not aware of any “weird rules.” I think they like to limit cell phone use to the lobby area, but that just means conversations. Plenty of people use their phones for music and that’s fine. I’m not aware of any strict time limits on the equipment, but I try not to go over 20 minutes per machine during busy times, just as a courtesy thing.

As for reimbursement, your insurance co should have the necessary forms on their website.

@Chrissy482:  We also liked when my fiance had to train for his new job downstate for 3 mos that we were able to use our black membership at the PF there. I would travel to see him Thurs-Sun and used my membership at home during the week and downstate on the weekends.  This probably won’t be relevant for everyone but if you travel there is generally a PF nearby.

I know a lot of people that go there and some dont mind it, but others hate it. Usually the people 21 and older hate it but the little kiddies loved it. lol.

Is there a blast fitness near you? Or ballys? Thats $20 a month for the same perks.
