My fiance and I are currently in the process of planning our honeymoon to Europe. We’ve run into a small problem because my fiance loves to sight see as many places possible, but I would lay on a beach for the entire 2 weeks. We are trying to find something that allows us to both sightsee and relax, but are having some trouble. We looked into a cruise that leaves out of Rome, but we are reading reviews where there are lots of add-ons and fees. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

I’m always a big proponent of cruises! Multiple places to see, multiple beaches to lay on!

It’s not what most people come up with, I would highly recommend considering Croatia. There are absolutely beautiful beaches, mountains, and loads of history–from Roman amitheaters to more recent museums. The food is amazing–in the panhandle the specialties are wine, truffles, and prosciutto and of course, fresh seafood is absolutely everywhere. (The prices are often significantly cheaper than mnny place in Western Europe, too.)
I could write an absolute novel about how wonderful the country is, but will leave it at this for now. If you have questions, feel free to send me a PM. Mrs. Hermit Crab from a few years back did several posts about her honeymoon to Croatia that might be valuable. I dug through her posts when I was planning my trip (we ended up going to Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Hungary.)
PS–Montenegro and Bulgaria also would fit the bill, but I’m guessing you want to stay a little more in the West.

@tiff4ny03: I did a cruise – it was amazing! NCL, from Venice to Barcelona. I highly recommend it!

If you dont want to do a cruise, I loved Barcelona. You can have a day or two on the beach but there is a lot to sightsee there as well.

@jldown2: I am dying to go to Croatia!

@kmb727: It is *amazing*. We toured a Roman ampitheater, laid on the beach, and went on a wine tour on the same day. That is fake life. Let’s not even start on the food.

We’re thinking Turkey for the same reason. If the situation were different, Egypt was our top choice. We’re holding off for a couple months before we book to see how things develop.
