Can it be done?!?!
I need some advice ASAP!! My fiance and I were going to have a destination wedding in Costa Rica next January, but expenses are creeping up QUICKLY! And guests aren’t sure about booking and it’s really starting to cause me some stress!
I’m ready to scratch the destination wedding and have a small wedding here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. THIS MAY OR JUNE!! I’m starting a 6 month internship in July, so it must be before then.
Anyone out there with any ideas??? I’m thinking a hotel because they tend to include everything and its a place for my out of town guests to stay (over 75% of our guests are OOT)
Anyone know of a free date in May/June??! Anything will help at this point!

Good Luck! I’m sure it can be done, but you may have to sacrifice some of your top vendors since they will most likely be booked. My friend planned a DFW wedding in 7 months from FL.
She did a hotel, which helped with all of the out of town guests, the room/food and what not. If you don’t do a hotel, I would suggest looking for another venue that has in house options so it cuts down the amount of vendors you need to research and book.

@elephant: Thanks!! So far the hotels I’ve looked at are fairly all inclusive, with the exception of photographer and officiant, which I think I have covered. I don’t really have any preferred vendors…. any will do at this point!! I just need a place!
Thanks for your advice!

My mom and I planned her wedding in 3 months, so I know it can be done! Good Luck!

@jillieb: How did you do it?!?! Were you able to find a venue?! Ours guests are almost ALL out of town, so I have to have it on an Saturday! I’m starting to call tomorrow but so nervous to hear all the “NO’s”!

Hi-ya! I just moved here from Arlington and I miss DFW so much. Awwhh..
Anywho…I saw that you mentioned budget was becoming a concern in your original post. Are you and Fiance homeowners or know someone with an awesome backyard? No no, keep reading, I’m serious. Since I’ve started planning my wedding, getting ideas from pics and blogs, I have seen some backyard weddings that REDEFINE backyard wedding!!! If you can find a reasonable place for rentals (chairs, tables, etc) you can really put together something quite lovely! If we already had our home (hopefully soon, fingers crossed) I would be all over the backyard idea!!!

Notice…my wedding date is 7/22/11. That’s on a Friday evening. 3/4 of our guests are Out of Town but bc it is just a small, intimate guest list of 75 of our immediate family and very best friends, NOT A SINGLE 1 of them has complained about the Friday. They are either working 1/2 day that day or taking it off completely. We saved upwards of $2000 on the venue alone and got some awesome upgrades and add ons. We also are finding that there’s lots of wiggle room with other vendors as well for having it on Friday.

Definitely-We did ours in 4 months. My daughters in 2 months. What type of feeling do you want your wedding to have? How many guests?

@creativeplannertobee: Thanks for all of the responses!! 🙂
Friday would be out for us because so many people will be driving from St. Louis to Texas. When I brought up the Friday… I got an immediate NO. lol Plus a lot of people are from Waco, Tyler, and the outskirts of DFW, so it would be the morning drive up and stay for the night then head back early on Sunday.
As for the type of wedding, super low key, but super fun!!! I’m all about the party! We want to do the ceremony and reception all in the same room. I’m not huge on decor…. I’m fine with whatever the vendor has (as long as its not hideous!) We originally planned a Costa Rica wedding and all I wanted was my vows and a night of drinking and dancing! I’m hoping to carry that over to Dallas. My friend offered to make our cake, and we have a friend that could do photography really cheap.
As for the back yard, we have a home in the city… meaning NO yard or parking! I thought the same thing too at first!! But we don’t have any family in the area or friends with a large yard.
Thanks everyone! Keep the ideas coming!
Budget between 10-13 thous (including EVERYTHING!) But I’ve already bought invites (DIY) and my dress (fabulous!).

If you can wait, I would– I could have easily planned a nice wedding in 3 months but having year has given me time to change my mind and modify plans so that I can have the my dream wedding

@soontobeMrsJarvis: We actually did a back yard wedding, but got everything else all together ourselves. lots. and lots. of work! I think we were planning something every day leading up to the wedding. It was great though, and gorgeous… all of the guests said it was one of the prettiest/nicest weddings they had been to, backyard or not!

We could wait… but that would be until after I graduate in January…. so we would just stick with our original plan of destination in Costa Rica. Which would be great!!! But I’m about to start an internship in June that will be really intensive, and I almost would rather have this wedding thing off my hands!
@jillieb: I love backyard weddings!! So fun and intimate! I wish we had somewhere to do it!

Have you thought about having it on a Sunday instead of Saturday? A lot of venues actually have discounts for a Sunday instead of a Saturday. All of our guests are out of town(about a 2 1/2 hour drive..some people longer) and so we are having our wedding the Sunday of the May long weekend(May 29). We are also having a 11:30 ceremony and a lunch time reception. This is saving us a ton of money on food! With it being a Sunday holiday weekend, people who have to travel longer distances can take Saturday to travel, Sunday for the wedding, and Monday to travel back. Oh and when it comes to planning in 3 months, I think it can be done! I’m at the 3 month mark now and I’m a slacker so most of my planning is being done now. And I completly understand wanting the wedding to be done before your internship..I put of going to grad school for a year becuase I didn’t want to deal with the stress of working full time, grad school, and planning a wedding!

It can be done, but the bigger fancier places are probably already booked.
My brother-in-law is getting married tomorrow (!!) and they have only been engaged since late December, so that was only 2 months. Granted it was a very BUSY 2 months for them.
And ditto for the Sunday/Friday discounts.

I’m a DFW bride and also planning my wedding in a short amount of time. (We just started planning last week- wedding will be June 11th- yikes!!!)
We are using a park in my parents neighborhood. It’s amazing and FREE! I know you said you live in the city, but have you checked out the local parks around you? I have a friend who had a beautiful wedding at River Legacy Park in Arlington in a pavillion (no need to rent tables and chairs!) a few years ago. She barely spent a dime over 1000.00 entertaining 100 guests! Just a thought 🙂
