SO and I have been really stressed lately. Issues with my family, college, and our conflicting schedules hardly ever letting us spend quality time together has been killing us. We’ve been taking our stress out on each other, and both of us realize this isn’t good for our relationship and we have resolved to work on it. Both of us have expressed the desire for a weekend getaway- something small and simple, like booking a room at a local bed and breakfast and spending a weekend secluded inside, with no distractions, so that we can reconnect and recharge.
Well, I have a little bit of money coming in in a couple of months, as well as the little bit I get from doing online surveys and stuff. I know I’ll be on a super tight budget, like maybe $300 or so. We had talked about splitting it (I could cover the hotel, he’d cover food and gas) and going sometime around New Year’s, but I’d love to surprise him and go a little earlier if we could.
We would spend 2 nights away. I’m thinking about booking us a room at a bed and breakfast or a decent hotel- the budget is short, but if I got a good deal I could probably do a Country Inn & Suites or something (I booked a king suite with separate living area for less than $90 including tax for another vacation a few months back, so I think I could do it again). I know SO would be happy with a Motel 8, honestly XD. I also thought about packing a basket with romantic goodies, like chocolate covered strawberries and some of our favorite candies (actually, at first I considered booking a romantic package through the hotel, but $100 for rose ptels? $40 for a box of chocolates? Uh, no). We would probably just spend the weekend watching movies and playing video games, go out to eat once or twice, and of course roll around in the sheets :p SO is the kind of guy who gets into this kind of stuff and thinks it’s sweet, so I’m not worried about him thinking it’s cheesy.
So any ideas, bees, on how I can make this special on a tight budget? Do you think $300 is reasonable? My best friend and I did a 2-day weekend for around $400, with three kids, that was out of state and included attractions. Since SO and I wouldn’t be travelling that far, and we wouldn’t be shelling out $130 for attractions, I figure $300 is reasonable, but I’m just curious about some other bee’s opinions.
