My Mom and stepdad rented a cabin in Tenn. for their honeymoon and then returned for their 1 yr anniversary. They really enjoyed it and said it was a great break from reality. Good Luck
We LOVE LOVE this. It's actually what we were doing when we got engaged!!! And recently went back for our one year engage-aversary.
It's a beautiful log cabin that we suspect the owner (who's a lovely retired couple) built. There's a hot tub gazebo. Only two cabins on their whole property. There's a beautiful front porch with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs. The wife brings by fresh baked breakfast pastries with juice every morning. IT was so awesome!
Try looking on vrbo.com or homeaway.com
or googling cabins in (your city)
log cabins in (your city) etc.
We wanted one that was pet friendly so it took me FOREVER. But it's perfect.
FI and I rented a cabin in the Catskills last winter and it was really fun. The place had everything we needed - pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. etc. and we just brought groceries. It was so relaxing and fun to get away. Highly recommend doing it! Don't know anything about Texas, though.
We did this a few years ago when we were just dating. The lake we went to was about 4 hours away, Robbers Cave in Oklahoma. I've also been to Lake Murray, which is right after the Texas/Oklahoma border.

I live in Texas and we have a few lakes out here (nothing too special but they are fun & peaceful.) Anyways, I wanted to plan a mini vacation on a cheap dime, so I thought about a cabin by a lake! We could cook our own food and just relax & fish and do nothing. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a basic cabin with a kitchen.
So, has anyone does this? What was your experience? If your in Texas do you have any recommendations? (esp if any of those recs are within 2-3 hours from Dallas :)
