I booked my photographer after I had date, budget, and venue secured. It was my most important part of the wedding to me and I wanted to book my favorite photographer ASAP so she wouldn’t get booked by someone else.

Now I’m working on caterer and DJ. Florist and cake will be after that.

That’s my plan, anyway!

not an oct bride, but this seems like a pretty universal question =)

 

I’d suggest the caterer and photographer.  Then the cake!  Then the dress =)  hahaha

@STBSchmidt:  Hi month twin! We got engaged in Sept and the first thing we crossed off was the venue.  I ordered my dress in October – it will come in in April!  I also have photographer, church, DJ, cake tasting is next week, then I will look for florists

We did venue, photographer, dress, caterer…in that order.

Right now we’re working on officiant and DJ. Cake and flowers will be next!

Wow, you all make me feel behind.  We haven’t done one thing yet.  We’ve been engaged 5 days longer than OP but with the bustle of the holidays, we haven’t had a second to think about planning.  I don’t know how you all find time for so much so close to Christmas!

I’d suggest becoming a member of theknot.com or marthastewartweddings.com.  They have very through checklists and timelines.  Personally I’ve secured the date & venue and now we are searching for a photographer. And I’m going to begin my dress search this month.  February we will search for a DJ and Officiant.  Hope that helps, congrats, and good luck.

Eek..i have the same date too..Oct. 15 and the only thing I have done is the venue which does our catering.  The rest is still up in the air. =

 I was surprised that the thing that was most stressful to secure after the venue was the DJ.  I knew who my photographer was going to be – that can be hard too – but we were REALLY picky about a great DJ and they all seemed to be booked. I’d talk ASAP about what you want for music so that you don’t feel rushed into picking the wrong thing. Definitely not something to leave for 4-5 months before.

I just finished dress ordering for me and my maids this month for a September date, and was told not to bring in alternations for either any later than May, since there are so many summer/fall weddings and you want to have time to send it back for final changes. So get that going ASAP too. 

Don’t panic, there’s plenty of time, but some things are def more urgent than others!
