We got engaged this past August. Our wedding will be on October 19th next year. So far, all I have is our venue (a lake house property). We picked out the colors – coral, pink, and chocolate brown… and we’re having a movie themed wedding (specifically books-turned-into-movies) but I’m still undecided about everything else. My dad was joking around and telling me that I might as well move the wedding date to 2014 because of how slow I’m planning.
How can I get moving? All I do is look up ideas all day on Weddingbee! I’m addicted to just reading about things! Anyone else like this?
I haven’t even asked anyone to be in my wedding party! Goodness…

You still have plenty of time for most of the items, but I would suggest looking at vendors – DJ/band, photographer, caterer – since these vendors usually book up pretty quickly. Things like flowers, decor, and dresses can wait. Good luck!

@alotlikelove: Weddings can definitely be planned in a year. However, yes, you better get moving! Now that you have your venue, you want to find a photographer and dj. Good ones book up fast! And I think it’s time to look for your dress. They say look for it around 10 months before your wedding. You might find one right away or it may take you 100 dresses before you find the one.
If you are in no rush and want to take your time, then listen to your dad and wait an extra year. I had close to a two-year engagement and trust me, it went by fast.

You have time. The research (reading) you are doing will be helpful when you are deciding the details of the wedding. Right now, you can try and book other venodrs (call, set up meetings, discuss packages and pricing.)

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your input!

I feel like things are stalled on my end, as well. I have some of the big things booked: venue, photographer, officiant. However, like you, a lot of my planning is stalled. I have ideas of what I want, but I live far away from my family, so it’s hard to get the ball rolling. I would suggest starting to scope out some vendors, as well as visiting some craft stores and taking a look at fabrics and decoration ideas. Perhaps it will inspire you! 🙂
