I say go for it! When hors d'oeuvres are served at our wedding, they will just be on little paper napkin/paper shell type things. I think the pictures in your example are really cute and unique.
If you'd like something a little more green, and less full of chemicals, I really love this palm leaf stuff..

I think they look really cool too.

Can I get a bump? I would appreciate any ideas from the Bees who thought of the environment.
I think you can do the neat presentation if you use some plastic wear. You can still ask that when the servers collect the plates/forks/etc that even though they are plastic you keep them. You can then wash them and use them around the house in the future. Also, if a few do accidentally get thrown away you aren't out a ton of money.
We do this around my house with solo cups. 1 package will last us MONTHS because I just keep putting them in the dishwasher, and then slowly they accidentally get thrown away or left somewhere and we replace.
You shouldn't ever reuse plasticware that is made to be disposable. I hate to be the eco-freak here, because i am really not (love my car!) but plastic has some scary chemicals in it that we don't really know the consequences of on the human body!
I immediately thought of the Bambu products too (the branchhome.com link)! I use them for informal dinner parties because the clean-up is so much easier, and they're relatively heavy and solid. I think they'd work nicely for tapas.

Hola Bees!
I am having a non-traditional, strolling tapas reception. Basically, I will have cold foods available as an hors d'oeuvres buffet, and waiters bringing around warm foods, increasing in heaviness as the night progresses. The food is intended as a dinner replacement. While my reception is non-traditional, and it isn't formal in the hotel ballroom, ice sculpture sense, I wouldn't call it informal. More, Northern California elegance.
My question is whether I can use plastic serving ware for the tapas. I adore the presentation aspect of this style, and would like to use things like this (looking like this):
I do plan on having small china plates at the cold buffet and the dessert buffet.
Thoughts?
