I’m talking elective plastic surgery that is not needed (i.e. crazy huge breast implants, too much botox, face lifts, etc). There are a couple celebrities that I’ve noticed have went way too far with the surgery and now it’s just made them look horrible. I don’t think it makes anyone look better (strictly cosmetic plastic surgery I mean), it just makes ppl look older and well, plastic. I was just watching an episode of Friends, then I turned it off and turned the tv on and Cougartown was on and I noticed how horrible Courteney Cox now looks. She didn’t need plastic surgery at all! I’m just confused as to why people do this to themselves. What do you guys think about plastic surgery? Would you ever get it? Why or why not?

Plastic surgery is a GREAT way of throwing money at your insecurities in hope that they’ll go away.
In reality though, I”m sure that lots of people get more minor tweaks done and look good. And on the plus side, all that for-profit experimentation has advanced cosmetic surgery technology/skill so that there are better results available out there for people who are in accidents, etc.

I agree! I would never get it I don’t think. I saw on the doctors where they paid for this woman’s ‘Mommy Makeover’ but she had had 5 kids and was really feeling down about her body. I feel like if you get something corrected to how it used to be (I.e. a tummy tuck after pregnancies) then it is a good thing. Also getting a minor breast surgery done As in going from like A to B or B to C, or just having them lifted a bit more , isn’t bad in my view. Again, I wouldn’t get it but I understand why some people would.
I hope this is able to remain a peaceful discussion haha!

Yes, minor surgeries are ok in my book (smaller breast implants, corrective surgeries, etc). I feel like people get addicted to the surgeries though and then take it too far.

Eh, I’m of the opinion that it’s your body so do what you want. Other people might not like it but if it makes you happier than it’s done what it should do.
I’ve had plastic surgery myself for purely cosmetic reasons as a teenager, but my confidence and quality of life definitely improved afterwards. It’s still really weird to look at myself in the mirror and think that I look pretty good sometimes.

I am watching Botched right now on E! (about messed up plastic surgery) and that would definitely keep me away from any elective surgeries. I definitely understand some though like a breast reduction Solei Moon Fry got because of back pain, or getting a rhinoplasty because you can’t breathe properly ect.
The case of Heidi is so sad, she was so much prettier pre-surgery! Also in the case of Courtney Cox I think botox almost ALWAYS makes someone look older not younger.

Lana Del Ray looks pretty darn good and she has had work done.

_blackbird_: I think those examples you posted are pretty good examplea of why plastic surgery can do more harm than good. I don’t see anything wrong with Courtney Cox though. She is just getting older.
A lot of the celeb pics that end up in articles about plastic surgery gone wrong really aren’t about bad plastic surgery. That is just what happens when it is over done and people start getting older. There is no escaping time.

Those you posted over did it. I don’t see anything wrong with “fixing” something that bothers a person, as long as they are doing it for themselves and not to please anyone else.

Unless it’s my body, it isn’t my business.

Personally it’s not for me but I don’t care what others do to their own bodies. I think we should worry about ourselves…
Yes, it does look ridiculous on some extreme cases but there are others that it doesn’t look so bad on. Also, for some people plastic surgery can be a huge blessing because they may have had something horrific happen to them (ie: breast cancer, in a fire, etc)

Rappig: I think her lips looked better before, but otherwise she looks okay with the nose job.
Based on what I have seen regarding plastic surgery, I think people shouldn’t mess with their lips. I have not seen one instance of that looking better after as compared to before.

_blackbird_: You’re comparing a photoshopped and much younger looking Courtney Cox to the current, older Courtney Cox. I agree with Bridey77: that she’s primarily getting older.
excitedtobeMRSF: Really, you think she looks older than 50? Because she’s 50. IMO she looks like she’s in her early to mid 40’s.

_blackbird_: I used to say that too when I was younger! But now after two kids and lots of my mommy-friends fixing things like sagging breasts, loose skin and furrowing eyebrows (those forehead wrinkles just get worse from all the trouble kids cause) – I’d have to say that I completely get it and don’t judge anymore. But I agree, some people go way overboard to the point where they don’t really look human anymore! And one guy I know got some crazy surgery in France to make him 2″ taller. Talk about a waste of money, especially because he wasn’t THAT short to begin with!
