But seriously do people still have curtains in their homes anymore??
a little info, I am studying textile design and as part of an industry project this semester we have to design a range of curtains for a rather high end design company. It’s a competition, and involves prize money but more importantly the top 2 designs will be put into production. Woohhooo.
Here’s the problem… i actually don’t know anyone who has curtains you their homes. maybe it’s an australian thing? Show me what you have!! and if its not to much trouble what you like about the pattern on them.
Its boggling my mind! Thanks in advance x

Definitely not just an Australian thing – I have curtains in most rooms of my house. They’re not especially impressive or interesting though. I don’t have photos. One thing I do like about how I did curtains in my bedroom is that our bed is off-center from the window and the scale was all wrong. I put curtains across the width of the entire headboard, covering the window and making it all look centered. It looks very nice!
I would suggest you look on Houzz for curtain inspiration. It’s going to be WAY better for a high end design company than what you’re going to get from most of us.

I thought everyone had curtains. What do you use to cover your windows? Blinds?
I don’t have any pictures but we have long red curtains in our livings room covering the french doors into the house. I like the pop of color and that they aren’t shiny. I have dark purple curtains in my bedroom. I love purple and they are extra thick so they block out any light. No patterns, just color.

@Little knitter: I have curtains on all of my windows. I don’t have photos as mine are cheap for now, but I prefer ones that are blackout (or I always add a blackout liner) I don’t care for light curtains, preferably a heavier fabric and if you’re going more high end you may wish to look into some of the design trends like stripes, animals and green. If you can design a curtain that mimics one of those “living walls” that would probably appeal to those with more money as that really makes a statement.

Thank you all for such quick responses.
@Elky: unfortunately we have been given a very specific set of concept boards and colour palattes and I’m just finding it impossible to find inspiration from them. It’s all lace patterns greys oranges and pastels 🙁 no green to be seen .

Also, blinds are definately the go here. makes me wonder how this company is doing so well in australia… Where are all the curtains they are supposedly selling?!?

In the bedroom mine are half dark purple, half light purple at the bottom.
In the office mine are just white linen, simple.
Here’s pics of the kitchen and living room:

Our curtains are pretty typical, but in summer we use the blackout ones as well.
We keep our AC on like 66, so like to keep as much cold air in as we can!

We have curtains in our lounge, they are tab top, (loop around the pole) plain (no pattern) Maroon in colour and floor length.

I’m in LOVE with my curtains! They’re so cool. Greenish-grey with gingko leaves. (This is a stock image.)
