I'm DIYing my c/ps because the budget doesn't allow for flowers.  What do you think?  This is my third trial and I'm really happy with them.

Excuse the crappy cell phone pics (FI is oot and has the camera).  Also, there will be a fairly large round mirror underneath everything (well, except for the runners) and the runners will be steamed prior to the wedding.

What do you think?  Anything you'd add/change/remove?

I love them! I love the variety :) Will each table be exactly the same, or will the pieces be switched up some at each table?

@daydreamwanderer: I'm leaving that up to my DOC since she'll be setting them up.

I like them very much (I'm actually not a huge fan of most floral centerpieces)

I love the lanterns.  We really considered lanterns for a while because like you we can't afford floral centerpieces (we decided on branches).

Very pretty!!!  The only thing I might try is making the lantern a little taller than the candles and holders.  if you're wanting to go cheap -aka inexpensive- you could use cardboard boxes.  for small boxes, try stores like Family Dollar, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, etc.  any place that gets little boxes for their stock.

Other than that, they are gorgeous and work great in place of flowers!!!

I'm worried that the big vase is just too much, what do you think of this version?

I like the concept, but not the mix of both freestanding and floating candle. It feels uneven. I'd do one or the other - I think the freestanding candles with the lanterns fit the best

I love the lantern idea. But I agree with someone above who said to make the lanterns a little taller than the candles. Alternating levels add dimension. Taller lantern, shorter free standing little votives would look nice. Or some tables with floaters and some with votives.

I love the lanterns and I love the candles- but not together.

Would you consider doing lanterns on half your tables and the glass vases with the candles on the other half? You could still have the smaller candles on each table.

I think the lanterns are adorable.  However, I would not mix the large candle holders with the lanterns.  Perhaps you could have some centerpieces with the lantern and small votives, and some with the tall candleholders and small votives.  Also, I am not sure about the green stones in the floating candles.  However, I think it looks completely fine to mix regular and floating candles.  Actually, I really like that look.

    So pretty!

I would choose EITHER the lantern OR the tall vase, though. They are kind of fighthing eachother to be the central focus.

the lanterns are really quite beautiful!

I think you should either do lanterns OR glass vases, both seems disjointed and too much.

I think I'm another vote for picking between either the lanterns or the large glass vases. Together it doesn't seem quite right -- not enough variety in height.

How about lanterns on some tables and big vases on others? As many have said, the size of the lantern and the big vase are a little off next to each other, and you said yourself together it was a bit much.. How about alternating lanters + candles and big vases + candles? I just love when centerpieces aren't all the same! The height differences really make things look chic, you know?

I'd do the lanterns with the votives only.  The larger candle holders take away from the lantern.

These look great, but I agree with the other posters that you should omit the big hurricane.  :)  Cute lanterns!

i think the candles and lanterns are good together, with the floating candles i would not put the same amount of water in, let them stagger and put the smaller votives scattered around, then i would say A+++!!!!! and i agree with some of the above commets in regard to getting rid of the big hurricanes! maybe add one more with water and floating candle instead. three of them would be a good number and they appear to be a good size in contrast to the other things you are using!

I agree with PP with having two versions: 1) With vases and 2) with lanterns. I LOVE candles though

I like the lantern with the votive candles.  What about having the lantern with 6 votives around it and then a candle in the lantern?

I think the floating candles and the taller candle holder are just too much and too tall.

I also like the lantern with the votive candles. I think the taller candles and the hurricane is just way too much. The lantern is awesome though!

I agree with the comments about the large vase and lantern fighting for the spotlight. I would definitely just go with the lantern and remove the large vase. Also, if you're going to have the green bottom/floating candles, I would put something green in the bottom of the votives too (a leaf wrapped around the bottom?) and them put the floating candles on each side (to balance it out) - Overall, I think it's going to look great!

Love those Michael's lanterns - we have some sitting on our side table right now!  I like the lanterns with the shorter candles - with the hurricanes it takes away from the lantern.
