    Okay, we are having a small (30 - 50) person wedding, mostly family with a few close friends. It will be fairly casual. I am trying to simplify as much as possible, however I don't want to leave out anything important. So tell me if you think this works!

    Each invitation envelope would only contain 2 pieces of paper.

    1. 5 x 7 card, printed front and back.

    Front: Please critique my DIY invitations! : wedding invitation std save the date wording gay marriage Invitationnewsmall

    Back: Please critique my DIY invitations! : wedding invitation std save the date wording gay marriage Invitationbacksmall

    2. a 3.5 inch by 5 inch card:

    Please critique my DIY invitations! : wedding invitation std save the date wording gay marriage Rsvpsmall

    (Oh, it's a non-legal ((thanks USA)) lesbian wedding, if you're confused about the "legal/outlaw" thing. )

    I'm not worried about people being able to figure out the website, etc - there's so few people that we don't mind calling to double check on RSVPs. We pretty much know who's going to come anyway, we just want to have something nice and physical to keep. And they're not getting a menu choice. : )

    What do you think?

    Grr. My borders aren't showing. Let me know if I should re-post with the borders drawn or if they make sense as is. They'll just be printed on a nice thick ivory paper, like cardstock probably.

    At first I thought you were getting married to someone in prison!! LOL Then I read further and I was like OHH Got it haha. Love the invitations now that I understand it. Seems like you have all the basics covered and dress attire (formal or other) suggestions are on the website I assume?

    There shouldn't be a comma between "partners in crime" and "and partners in life" because they aren't two complete sentences.

    I would also chance the last sentence to "Brunch reception to immediately follow" because it sounds more natural.

    Otherwise, I think they're adorable!  I would be so excited if I got one of those invitations!

    I love them.  But I agree the font is a little tough to read, especially for important info like the wedding website and the address. (numbers are fine though)

    Those are definitely super-cute. Your guests won't need the explanation about the "legal" part, right?

    @Ivorybuttons: Well, they definitely know we're gay. : D Actually, the first question we got from most people, especially family members, was "Is that legal?" So our invitations are kind of a light-hearted response to that. We also have a more in-depth explanation on our website about the legality of gay marriage in general.

    @Pappy8:

    @ladyartichoke:

    Darn! I really love this font. I think I might try printing them off so they're full-size and seeing how readable it looks in "real life." If it's still confusing I'll find another font that coordinates with this one. I agree it's very important that they can read our website name. : )

    Very cute!!  You did a great job with them!  I just wish that our country would hurry up and make it so you didn't have to cross out the "legal" part of it!  But indeed a clever design!!!!

    @moonadea:  Move to MA ... we'll make it legal for you!!!  But what a cute idea!  I adore the illustration.

    I however think you should mix the script font with a standard font in the details side of your invitation for readability.

    I think they are WONDERFUL! You did a great job. I do think that adding an additional font would add a bit more dimension and would be just a touch easier on the eyes. I would keep "Even outlaws need inlaws" (love that saying by the way) and your names in the original font (which I love too). And find a simple all-caps or san-serif font for the rest.

    @CrystalBlackheart: @Crabbabs:

    I think you both may be right. I'll experiment with that when I get home from work tonight and post an updated version. What about the RSVP card though? Leave it or change it?

    @moonadea: For the RSVP card I would put "RSVP and Information" in the original font at the top as a header. Under that in the new font:

    "Please visit:

    website

    password: xxxxx"

    Also, I just want to say your illustrations are superb. The dimension in the flowers adds so much and the masks on the pets are too cute!

    So cute!  Have you thought about adding the word "official" above the strikeout of "legal", almost like an editing note?

    @moonadea:  I'd leave headers and your name in the script and then change the "important" text to script.

    For the invite, leave "Even outlaws need in-laws" in script (although gramatically correct you don't need the period for a tagline in an invite) and leave your names in script. You could also leave "Brunch reception to follow" in script for balance and aesthetics.

    For the RSVP, try leaving only the words "RSVP" and "Password:" in script.

    This will actually make it easier to read and the script will have a more dramatic effect.  As for fonts to pair it with if you want something clean and modern - it may depend on what program you are using and what is available to you but Futura book, and Avenir, may pair nicely as sans serif fonts.  For serifed fonts, try Garamond (using small cap alternates) or Mrs. Eaves.

    I can't wait to see what the final product looks like!
