We are having a non-religious ceremony, but incorporating a handfasting ceremony into it. The handfasting is a Scottish/Irish tradition.
The unity candle and the sand ceremony are not religious. They are very symbolic and completely appropriate for a non-denominational ceremony, imo.

Not having been raised in this culture, the American wedding ceremony is one of the things I'm highly ignorant of. I decided to forego the bridal party (again, not being used to this tradition). We have one MOH and BM, because I was told they are required roles, at least for handing out the rings/ holding the bouquet etc. Yet, we have a beautiful venue, a string quartet I've always dreamed of, and I don't want my ceremony to be short and dry. Could you please suggest some ideas for making it more colorful, and make it last longer than 10 min?
I thought of having the MOH walk alone...The BM walk FMIL to her seat...My brother walk my mom...And finally my dad walk me down the aisle. Is this a weird sequence? Is there anything else I can do with my limited bridal party?
For the actual ceremony, I've read about the unity candle and the sand ceremony. What are your thoughts on these, especially for a non-denominational ceremony? I'm open to all other ideas as well. TIA.
