A VFW or American Legion hall maybe? The problem is, those places usually make you purchase their bar package. And the places that are just empty rooms end up being a lot more expensive because you have to rent everything.

I’m near Chicago and we’re having our reception in the banquet hall of an Italian restaurant. It’s costing us $20/per person without open bar, which is $9.95 per person. We’ll have 80-90 people and it will cost under $4000 with open bar.

You might be best off doing something like this.

I think that was very sweet of you to include your brother on your happy day. I’ve been looking for a place like that as well, but most of the ones I’ve found are at least 3000k to rent it out.

If I come across any, I’ll make sure to post here. 🙂

@Mrsdontelewis:  There is a place north of Toronto called the heintzman House and it’s owend by town of Thornhill. Their price is 1,600 to rent.

Likely it’s too far for you, but seeing you are in windsor….

I would likely check any parks or maybe find a farm and hold an outdoor wedding reception…..

If you live in Windsor and your husband in Chicago, have you considered having the wedding in Michigan? Your money would go A LOT further here as opposed to Chicago. Of course you have to take into acctount hotel costs unless you know people in MI.

Hey, the first thing I would recommend you to do is to make wiggle room on your mind, not your budget…..  Think that you have 4,000 to spend rather than five… going over budget is part of the wedding experience Sealed

With 4k there is A LOT of DIY that you would have to do:

– Have a wedding brunch rather than 4 course dinner
– Have a wedding picnic buffet style
– Rent an empty space or outdoor, and do all the decoration etc yourself (or people that you get on craigslist or wedding wire)
– Used stuff rocks….  WeddingBee is your best friend
– Look at barns or farms that cater for events,

And still, 90-100 might be quite a few friends, so shorten the list a tiny bit or try to be more off the beaten path/

@Mrsdontelewis:  By hotel expenses I meant for the bride and groom. You do not have to pay for anybody else’s accomodation. I can understand worrying about if peopel will travel though. Good luck!

Definitely check out city-owned facilities. Granted, I am from a smaller city than Chicago (Denver, CO), but the City of Denver owns some amazing venues that are as low as $100 to rent for the evening, and they let you bring in your own caterer and provide your own alcohol.

Also check out local parks! Usually very low-cost or free to reserve for an evening!

If you’re open to having it in Michigan, I am more than happy to help you out with suggestions. I live in the Kalamazoo area, so we’re right on the way from Chicago to Detroit.
