    Hi ladies,

FI and I are registering at BBB and Macy's.  We would have been happy with just registering at one place but we were told by lots of family/friends that at least two places was a must...  We went with BBB because they have such awesome customer service and we went with Macy’s because our family is much more likely to shop there than someplace like Pottery Barn, CB, or Williams and Sonoma.

We've already registered at BBB.  We thought about making our second registry for someplace that was really different than BBB but we couldn't come up with any store we agreed on.  We have already paid for the honeymoon and won't be buying a home anytime soon, so those websites where guests can give cash didn't seem appropriate.  We also have plenty of furniture and no need for more electronics.

But we NEED household stuff.  We have never lived together, he's currently living with family, and I barely have enough plates to eat off of in my apartment.  Those traditional gifts of toasters, china, flatware, etc.?  Yeah, we actually really want that stuff!  We are pretty much starting from scratch.

How do you all suggest we split up our registry?  I don't want to register for everything at both stores (I don't see the sense in us registering for two different sets of china or two mixers).  Is one store better for some items than the other?  Keep in mind that you are talking to a 23 year old medical student who has never ever shopped for anything besides apparel at Macy's or bath mats at BBB.  Bring it down to my level. :)  Which place should I pick for sheets, decor, china, appliances, etc.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm going to Macy's with my FI tomorrow and we need some direction.  I have a registry checklist and have a general idea of what I need (which is a lot of things) but I'm just not sure where would be the best place to get it.

    Thanks!!

@meladoug: I am EXACTLY in the same situation as you in every way possible! We ended up going to Macy's and BBB. If you are interested, I'll message you my name and you can look at our registries if you would like. Just let me know!

They're both home goods stores, so you're going to find the same kinds of products in each store. It's more a difference of quality/cost; Macy's is the store with pricier, higher quality goods. For everyday china and flatware you probably want to go with BBB. Linens, it depends on how long you want them to last. You can go cheap but they'll wear out quickly.

Really, it depends on your needs. Do you love cooking or fluffy white towels? Do you like salad bowls or decorative trinkets? Etc. You'll probably be able to figure this out by looking at what they have and deciding what *you* think is a worthwhile buy. :)

I am in the same boat.  I'm dreading registering almost as much as FI is, which is saying something.  I think we're going to go with Macy's and BBB as well, since they're accessible to pretty much everyone on our guest list.  I have a few things that I definitely want (hello KitchenAid Stand Mixer), but beyond that, I haven't got a clue.
