K… So i need some advice… here’s my drama… i have 5 bridesmaids… anywhere from a size 0 with huge boobs to a square shaped, flat chested size six to a very curvaceous size 14… i really want all my girls in the same dress (“watermelon” color)… we have been to a ton of bridal shops and tried on hundreds of dresses…
Question #1 – Does it matter what fabric your girls wear in comparison to your bridal gown?? (My briday gown is chiffon) – I keep leaning more towards satin bridesmaid dresses to compliment it…
Question #2 – Which fabric is more flattering for a variety of body shapes? Chiffon or satin (not smooth, with pleats to “hide” imperfections?)?
Question #3 – here’s the top 3 dresses i’m leaning towards – which would be best to fit my array of bridesmaids? do you think these will work??

I tend to think most about FIT. And I think 6553 is best on variety. The pleats may actually make the bigger gals look even wider as oppsoed to “hiding imperfections”
Sincing at the waist (the smallest part of the body) does wonders for most shapes so I say go for the dress that’s fitted right under the bust.
2807 is my favorite though but might not work best on all shapes. My vote: 6553.

I love 2807, but like you my BMs were all different shape and sizes so I went with chiffon and just asked them to pick their own style that works best for them.

I’m voting for 6553 also. The sweetheart neckline will work on both big chested and flat chested girls.

I like 6553 from the choices above. And I have always thought that if your dress is satin, go with like fabric for the BM dresses. If I had picked a chiffon dress, I wouldve gotten chiffon BM dresses. It’s more uniform.
This is my BM dress I picked for them: I’ve got a vig fluxuation in sizes, so it looked really good!

6553 will be best for the mix. You may also consider a drop-waist dress for them… Those usually work on everyone, too.

@m.ruder: thtat was exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about!!

I would avoid strapless if you have girls with large chests. Not everyone is comfortable with them; I wore them in 2 weddings (36DD) and was not that comfortable. My experience with chiffon is that there is not a lot of “give” to is. So, if the dress is a little tight in the morning, its going to stay that way (or feel a little tighter) later.
Did you consider giving your bridesmaids options in the same color/fabric and then just letting them choose which dress they like best/fits best? I did that for my girls. I picked 3 dresses–one strapless, one halter, one v-neck, by the same designer, in the same fabric and color and told them to pick whicever they wanted. They all had the opportunity to got a bridal store and try each on as well. They all ended up picking the same one, but at least they a) tried it on and b) had some choice and c) were happy with the fit/style.

Also, I was in a wedding last summer where the bride wore a satin dress and our dresses were chiffon. I did not think it looked weird at all; I am not so convinced that the material of the bride’s dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses need to be the same.

I have four BMs sizes 0, 4, 6, and 10 so I know how you feel! I ended up letting them each pick their own dress in the same color and fabric. It worked out wonderfully and looks awesome!
To answer your questions I think the middle dress would fit a wide variety of shapes the best. I also think chiffon flatters a range of body types the best. Obviously, anything clingy, thin, or sheer should be avioded when you have bigger bridesmaids. Those types of fabrics can make anyone look bigger than they are! Also, I don’t think the fabric of your BMs dresses in comparison to your dress matters too much. My dress has a softer satin like look and my girls are wearing chiffon dresses. It all looks like nice next to each other.
Good luck 🙂

Personally i think it does matter what fabric the bridesmaids wear in comparison to the bride. Personally I feel if the bride is wearing a matte fabric like lace or chiffon than her BMs should wear a matte fabric too. If the wedding gown is matte and the BM dresses are glossy that doesnt look right to me. But thats just me.
