So we were so close to handing in our deposit for Bridgewaters in Manhatten. I walked into this place and loved it and the price was in ( although at the top) of our budget range. On a whim I decided to check one more place, Battery Gardens and now I am back to square one. I liked Battery Gardens alot  way more than I thought I would.Plus- they quoted us alot lower price if we were willing to move our June date to March or April. I don't know much about it and have never spoken to anyone who actually got married there.

Any suggestions or comments. Bridgewaters or Battery Gardens?????

That's actually really funny. We loved Bridgewaters and Battery Gardens as well. Ultimately, we chose Battery Gardens because of the outdoor ceremony area, the views, and the food. We also had a "small" NYC wedding of 125 people and Bridgewaters would have been too big.

Also it helped that our good friend who was getting married 2 weeks after us chose Bridgewaters, but they had 225 guests. It worked out well for us bc we both got to enjoy both venues (and we clearly planned our weddings together!)

Other than size, consider the decor. Battery Gardens is pretty modern and white. Bridgewaters is a little bit more traditional. If stairs is an issue for you, then the reception area of Battery Gardens might be a turn off, whereas, Bridgewaters has easy access with elevators. Evaluate the overall feel you want your wedding to be.

Hmm. Your are defintely right the have totally different vibes. We have 175 and a cermony off site the the size doesn't make a difference . If we were going to go with Bridgewaters we would have a June date, and with BG a early April.

Thanks for everyone's imput. I can't believe there was no love for Bridgewaters. We still really love the place and haven't totally made up our mind. Here's a new question:

We can afford Battery Gardens in early April  ( so no guarentee of outside areas)

     or

Bridgewaters in June ( because its one flat price for fridays) so nicer weather overall and outside cocktail hour and grilling station.

I personally love Bridgewaters.  We are getting married there in February with 100 people.  The one thing about Bridgewaters in the summer (i.e. using the outside area) is that you are right near the FDR, which might be a consideration for you.  Also, Bridgewaters' prices drop drastically in the winter.  My bet is that their prices would drop for March too.

I looked at both places and decided on Battery Gardens in September for 150 people.

I am getting married at Battery Gardens in May of 2010!  I was curious about Bridgewaters too but at that point we had looked at tons of places across NJ and NY.  Battery Gardens felt right so we ended our search!

Thanks to everyone for their opinions. We happily decided on Bridgewaters for June 2010 on a Friday! In the end, we just love the whole vibe and a decor. Plus the amazing view of the bridge was pretty hard to beat since we got engaged on the Brooklyn Bridge.  Battery Gardens is beautiful and a great deal too but the event coordinators there were more difficult than the pope to get in contact with. I worked with Yvette and she rescheduled my appointment twice and yet to send me a final contract. Big turn off. But, from what it sounds this is not the norm, maybe I just caught her at a busy time. Thanks again!!

I am getting married at Bridgewaters in the winter.  A friend did a summer wedding at Battery Gardens which is nice, but it depends on the size.  Hers may have been a bit too big for the venue.  It was also a little annoying going up and down stairs.  She did a welcome downstairs, ceremony upstairs, cocktail hour downstairs and then reception upstairs.  It is a modern space, very clean, so if that is what you are looking for, great.

We chose Bridgewaters because of the season and the view.  I thought it would be nice for people to see South Street seaport, it is such a quaint area and as we will be doing a welcome dinner and morning after brunch, the Seaport area was perfect as it is so well contained, people are less likely to get lost.  I am a bit concerned that it is so formal.  I originally wanted a funky loft.  My parents love the formality and at least the ceiling makes it look a little industrial.  We will have to really focus on making the decorations look funkier.  Because it is evening winter, it will be black tie optional, no real way of getting around that.

I went to a wedding at the Bridgewaters in November.  It was elegant and lovely... I loved the view of SS Seaport (for a small donation, you can ask the caretaker organization - not sure who it is - of the old ships in port to turn on the lights for a beautiful, dramatic background).

    Great choice, congrats!

I got married in Bridgewaters in January 09, had a great time and love the venue! Worked with Beth Fink, she's awesome! I'm very happy to hear you chose Bridgewaters, I think they're great! The food was AMAZING! And they were willing to meet many of our needs and special requests! Also they are very professional and know how to run a wedding!

I got married at Bridgewaters this past January. It was amazing. The food was outstanding and the service was great. I worked with Eva and highly recommend her. The guests are still talking about how beautiful everything was. We had 200 guests (originally booked the venue thinking we would have 150). Here are some pics from the reception. @magilnyc: lovely wedding!  Great to hear, they're one of the frontrunners in our search, I'm just hoping to get the price per head down a little... :(

Food quality is really important to me, so at first I was afraid of these in-house catering places.  The wedding package includes a LOT of cocktail hour food, I'm now afraid people will fall into a food coma and not want to do anything!

@nyc new bee: The food at Bridgewaters is really steller. They cook all of the filets to order. My friends are still talking about how much food was at the cocktail hour and how yummy it was. Unfortunately I didn't get to eat any of it because I was too busy chatting! Also, the cake is included in the cost, which is nice. They will make any cake you want.

Talk to Eva about the price. She can really work with you. She also threw in a few extras for us.  I will tell you, for the quality of the food you get, and the top shelf open bar, the cost was SO worth it. Also, don't worry about a food coma. Our guests DANCED the night away. We even had people dancing before dinner was served.

Happy to answer any more questions you have, or post pics of something you want to see. Here is my video teaser, which really highlights the venue: http://www.vimeo.com/18966591

@magilnyc: so helpful, thanks!  I was actually in the middle of emailing Eva right now!   I always feel like every bride says the food was good, even at some places well-known for serving mediocre food, but I'm glad that Bridgewaters sounds so far like they actually care.  Thanks again!

Just went to a wedding this past weekend in the museum room at bridgewaters...great service and amazing food. I would NOT worry about the food at all. Filet mignon was amazing! Presentation of the food was great. Considering it for my upcoming wedding!!! It was so much fun. Hope that helps.
