I just got engaged 3 months ago. Im starting to look at venues and locations in the l.a area. Im not really sure on how much my wedding of 250 people will cost. Do you guys know any good places to get married and do the reception also? My cousin is going to cater our food for free. It would really help me if you guys could let me know how much you think this will cost. I also have a great deal on the alcohol. I dont even know where to start planning a wedding is so stressful! I just need a nice venue that provides tables chairs etc. I have a cake lady also already. Also about how much do the prices of flowers start at. I am open to diy projects.

@Breezy87: I got so many of my ideas and so much of my inspiration from this site! Browse the different topic boards and try reading some of the money/budget threads for an idea of how to break down your budget. A budget and a guest list are a good place to start looking.
ETA: I’m not from LA, so I don’t have any venue suggestions for you, but there are tons of things on all of the boards to help you plan all of the details and get ideas on where you can save money!

If your interested in figuring out a ballpark cost before you look around this site might be helpful:
You put in your zip code, # of guests, and type of wedding. I think it uses average costs to determine the answers…
RealSimple has an article based on the site with average cost for all states.
ETA: Just did it for myself and it came out to $26,821. I’m keeping my budget around $5,000, but I’m doing a lot of DIY projects, not having flowers, and have a few friendors. So it seems like it estimates on the high end, but you can always find ways to cut it down if you need too. Hah the $26,821 almost gave me a heart attack!

Hi! When I first started planning, I didn’t have a good sense of where to start or how to figure out the budget either, it can be daunting! Not sure if you have done this or not, but here’s my two cents:
Budgeting/costs: I went to theKnot.com and used their Budgeting Tool and played around with the total budget options to see what the breakdown in each category would be to get a sense of what is “reasonable”. The tool is set up to allocate your budget. There’s typically a certain percentage of the budget that should be allocated for each expense. You dont have to follow it but maybe it will help give you an idea of how much to spend and where you can adjust to get savings, esp since you noted that you have connections with the catering, cake, etc. I have seen that California wedding related costs are typically higher then the national average so keep that in mind, and DYI projects will be beneficial to keep costs down.
Venues: Since you posted this on the LA board, I am assuming you are looking in/near LA. I used the following online websites to help hunt down venue options in Cali so give these a try:

Thanks for the info guys. I looked on a few sites and im going to be doing alot of diy projects..lol. I think my budget will be around 10 thousand. My parents are going to give me five grand and my f.h will put in the rest. @creativeplannertobee I want a venue with beautiful scenery. @FloretteLiz How many guest are you having?
