I’ve been a really, really long time lurker on here and have always been very impressed with how everyone is so helpful with dress picking! Here is my dilemma.
I am completely in love with Maggie Sottero ‘Divina’, but I am London UK based and have called EVERYONE that stocks Maggie and no one has a sample. I can order in a sample, but would have to pay a fair amount to get it shipped to the shop.. (Im also getting married in March so am seriously short of time!!)
I have found a dress with a similar shape to the Divina, the La Sposa Mirra. When I tried it on, I liked it, but since then my BMs have said they prefer me in a more simple style of dress, they think they suit my figure more..
So, basically I’m trying to decide whether I should go for a simple dress like the first photo below, perhaps one in a lighter color. Or, go for the La Sposa Mirra, second photo. Or, third option, pay $$ to order a sample of Divina that I think I love, and perhaps may be a little more flattering than the Mirra???? but, risk a rush decision based upon the fact I have had to pay a lot to get the sample…
Thanks so much for any help!!!

I like the first one! It’s very flattering. IMO, you should go ahead and get that one and not bother with the Divina.

Personally, I don’t like the stuff at the neckline on dress #2, but the overall shape looks good on you. Of the 2 dresses you posted, I like the first dress better. It sounds like it might be worth the money to have a Divina shipped in, because it combines the simple bodice of the first dress, and the dramatic skirt of the second dress. So I vote to order in the Divina sample to try on.

As a tip: you might want to get a poll and you’ll get more responses. 🙂
Back to the post, I definitely prefer the first dress. You have a GORGEOUS figure, and something about that second dress just isn’t flattering. I think it might be how sudden it turns into a mermaid? I’m not sure. It definitely takes away from your curves though, and I think that’s one of the most important things with wedding dresses.
If you feel it’s too simple, they can always add a sash (not sure if that’s embellishment I see on the side or not?) or some extra beading. I REALLY love that gown. It’s absolutely timeless and suits you so beautifully.
As for the divina, it’s your money, BUT, I don’t think anything is going to compare to how gorgeous that first dress is on you.

I prefer number one. It’s beautiful and looks great on you. I’m not a fan of number 2 at all. Number one just screams elegance and looks so pretty.
I agree, add a poll.

Have just added a poll. Thanks for all your help so far!

I really , really love the way you look in the simple dress. I think a heavy, flowy fabric like that is wonderful for you. The waist detailing is gorgeous and the that gather at the hip does imitate a mermaid shape, but in a classy way. The overall effect is breathtaking.
The poofy mermaid (for lack of a better word – sorry) flatters your figure well but frankly, I think the tulle is distracting. In the first dress, my eyes are drawn to your gorgeous waist. In the second dress, my eyes are drawn to that bottom “poof,” even if I try to look at something else!
However, I do have to shoot out a disclaimer that I generally dislike mermaid dresses. I’m very conservative and I think they are strange. I have seen 2 or 3 mermaids I liked but considering how many appear on WB, that’s really not a lot!
Hopefully this comment will get the ball rolling and some mermaid lovers will give you their thoughts, too.

Ps – Im not sure Im doing great at sizing these photos, so apologies for that!

The second’s neckline adornment is odd and I just don’t like the bottom either. Number 1 looks great on you!

The overall shape of #2 works great on your body! Divina is similar so you could probably pull it off quite well. Scary to not get to try it on though!

That first dress is incredibly gorgeous!

I like the first one best. I have tried on the divina and it is suuuuuper beautiful! I was like you, fell in love with it online and thought that was the one. I ended up finding one I liked better, but anyway, it is similar to the shape of the second dress you have there, but idk the shape of the first just seems so elegant. I really love it!
