Hi bees!
I'm about to pick my dress! Finally! I need some honest opinions about these follwing 3 dresses. The price is in order from most expensive to least expensive.
My family's side will mostly be conservative so I was worried that they wouldn't "get" some of the dresses. But me and my SO are both designers and we want something creative. What do you ladies think?
VW-Diana...I love it! but I'm afraid all my grandmas will think the dress looks "torn". Also I tried it on in a trunk show size and it didn't look flattering but maybe it was too small?
ML-Sunday Rose...I love it too but it's a tad over my budget and also I was afraid the skirt was too non-traditional? I once tried an Oscar de la renta and my family "hated" it said it looked like lasangna and I looked like I was wearing a Hallowen costume.
ML-Alexandra...that was the dress my family picked out...but I thought it was a bit too boring for me and my SO...
Please be honest and brutal, I haven't put any money on any so don't worry:) Help please! Thanks in advance!
I thought I'd show you the dress that I loved but they all hated...If they hate this dress will they hate Diana and Sunday rose too?
@beekiss2, REALLY!! I'm glad to hear that, I was afraid it would look too "torn" apart.
I don't like the Oscar de la Renta either, but I love the Sunday Rose! Do you have any pictures of you in the dresses?
@future, I went to try on the Sunday Rose but the sample was is such bad condition the roses were falling apart it looked very sad. If I hadnt seen the pics on the internet I might not have even tried in on. I only have pics of me in the Diana and Alexandra (but they are bad photos since I was sneaking them).
Sunday Rose is gorgeous. I don't like the alexandra at all - that skirt is way too asymmetrical.
I love love love the Diana one. Did you post a pic of that dress earlier? I saw it on here earlier and couldn't stop looking at the pic lol
@amariem, I agree. The last one looked so-so to me and it's not cheap. I think my parents like it because it looked "safe" ...beads, low waist, sweetheart
I like the one with the lower waist..all are pretty, but the one that starts under the chest line looks like you are sitting on a nest or something..I dunno..it seems toooooo bird like.
@bloodgo1, it wasn't me:) I guess Diana has fans! It's so pretty on the model but I was not sure if it was pretty on me. Especially since the skirt is not so traditional.
I LOVE the Vera Wang dress. I saw it in an ad and almost drooled, LOL! Is this the same dress?? I envy you for being able to afford it!!

@greenek2, I have to agree with low waist since I am short and have a short torso. Haha I love the birdnest comment, I'm sure one of my grandmas will for sure think something along that line.
I actually like the Alexandra, but I can see how it might be boring to two creative types haha. I like the Diana or the Sunday Rose better than the Oscar de la Renta, to be honest. I think you should try them on and show your family. It is easy to dismiss a dress on a model, but when they see their little girl, their loved one look like a glowing bride in it, it will be harder to dislike! Good luck.
@ddubzz, YES it's that dress. The only thing is I don't look as elegant in it as that model. I am broke but my parents have offered to pay for my dress (yey!) ...IF they like it. My mom will be visiting me in NY next month and I have to get my finalists ready.
@Amaryllis, I wish they would like them too! But my mom is very critical and the last time we went dress shopping together (last June) she had something nasty to say about all my choices. I'm not blaming her though I have chosen some of the craziest dresses that only look good in runway models (like the Oscar dress).
You're super lucky! Can you add this Jim Hjelm dress to your finalists list? (So I can live vicariously through you, lol)!

I think the VW Diana skirt is unique and very flattering, I don't think it looks torn at all.. Vera Wang is one of the few designers who can make a simple tulle look dreamy and elegant at the same time.. but I am partial to Vera Wang :)
I love the first one. I am short and short waisted also, and I loved the way the low waisted dress made me look a bit longer. But I too love the Vera Wang dress, how can you not love her lovelyness.
@ddubzz, oooo that's a pretty dress! What style is it?
Yeah, my parents are spoiling me. Specifically for the dress budget, mainly because they want to have the decision making power of what I wear in front of all their guests and relatives!
VERA WANG VERA WANG. i did over that dress everytime i see it.
i LOVE the VW dress :) my fi didn't like it (too full of a gown), so i didn't try it on, but it's amazing.
I absolutely adore that Vera Wang dress. If you can afford it, get it!
Wow-great choices. I LOVE the Sunday Rose and really like the Vera Wang and I am not a big dress person at all. Between those two, I think the Sunday Rose looks like it would be more flattering, but you have to have then on to be sure. Alexandra doesn't do much for me.

I like the Diana, too, but I agree it looks torn. Almost sloppy? But I still really like it! Sort of that deconstructed chic look.
I DO really like the Jim Hjelm ddubzz posted. LIke, crazy like it.
I prefer the rose dress, but you don't really sound happy with any of your choices. Is this a decision that needs to be made ASAP? (due to time, etc.) If not, I suggest that you keep looking until you find a dress you can gush about, regardless of how your family feels about it. If you're happy in your dress, and you'll be happy on your wedding day, everyone will be so captivated by the joy raditating from your face that they'll forget to look at the dress! :)
I love this dress!
I think it would look great and has a very timeless romantic feel. I think it is totally worth the money! Who cares what your family thinks, tell them you feel beautiful and you love it and they should understand and appreciate it.
I think my family is very traditional and I chose a similar davids bridal dress that I was surprised they liked. I am so excited to wear it!
I really can't decide between the first two I think the Diana could look different in person and with movement so I'd be really interested to see if anyone has photos of them wearing it.
I have to agree, I'm not so partial to the third one. It reminds me of a mother of the bride dress almost. Maybe it's the sleaves and neckline?
I love the look of the roses on the Sunday rose one. I think it's creative, but also very bridal looking.
The Diana one does look a little torn, but might be fun if it blows in the wind a bit :-). I guess it depends on how you accessorize and the style of your wedding, too. What style of wedding are you planning?
Here are a few more dresses similar to the ones you were looking at. They're from preownedweddingdresses.com, but I'm sure you could find them new, too. I especially like the Pronovias Galaxia:

Oh, and I just came across this post where someone else wore the Vera Wang dress and it didn't look torn like in the picturs. Actualy, it's quite lovely :-)
THe Sunday Rose is one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen!!!!!! If you can, I say go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
