I had planned on going to buy my dress this Thursday...until I looked at the Spring 2010 David's Bridal catalog and then it was all downhill from there. I have had an extremely difficult time choosing a dress and with only 6 1/2 months left until my wedding, I need to decide soon! I have lurked around these boards for quite some time and love posts like this...and since you all give such GREAT advice, I wanted to see what your opinions were. All of the dresses are comparable in price and within my budget (woo hoo!) so price really doesn't make a difference. Here are my choices :)
This is an Allure dress and is completely different from the two that I like at David's Bridal.

Here is Dress #1 from David's Bridal (an Oleg Cassini). I am thinking that I might take out a layer of tulle and possibly go with a different sash?

This is Dress #2 from David's Bridal. I LOVE the back...but am not quite as in love with the front.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
the Oleg Cassini's are pretty (I tried on one when I was looking and was almost sold on it!)
but I just love the Allure dress on you! It's really flattering and the ruffles are gorgeous!
Oooooh, I like the first one on you. It is so flattering! And I think it does have hints of the second one at David's Bridal. My vote would be Allure -1 , first DB - 2, second DB - 3. If that makes sense. :)
I LOVE the two new David's bridal dresses. But then, I'm a sucker for vintage-style looks. I'd go with the first one and keep the sash. I really think it's gorgeous.
Ok here goes:
Surprisingly, I love the Alure gown with the ruffles! You wear it so well. I prefer that it's fitted down to your hips. Slimming!!! Oleg gown (#2) Please don't wear it! It makes you look bigger than you are! You have a great shape and this dress hides that. The waist hits you too high. Third dress, very pretty. Softer than the second.
But, my vote is for dress #1!
The allure is amazing on you! And, the construction and fabrics on allures gowns are so much better...
The 2 davids make you look a lot heavier than you are
Ok, wait. I just went to make dinner and thought about my post. I probably could have worded the "please don't wear that" better. My apologies. I meant to say, the first dress looks SO much better on you.
Reminds me of this gown I feel in love with. It was GORGEOUS, had a similar cut to the Oleg too. I loved it. BUT, it was all wrong on me. :( So sad. Cause I loved that dress. I feel the same with this Oleg on you. I have seen the dress in person, I tried it on too. I LOVED it, so fun, flirty....I totally see the appeal. But it looked like poo on me. Luckily, it doesn't look like poo on you, but I think it's a difficult dress to wear. All that fabric adds a lot of weight to not-fat brides.
*EvieMarie- Don't worry...I didn't take offense to your post at all! I work with brutally honest second graders every day and can take suggestions like a champ!
Thank you so much for the comments and opinions everyone :) I truly do value them!
I agree that the first is more slimming...but there's just something about the airiness of the DB dresses *sigh*
P.S. I had food poisoning the two days before I tried on the Allure dress...so I was definitely a bit thinner that day...but with stepping up my workout regime, hopefully I won't have to resort to eating bad seafood again to look good in it :)
I voted for the Oleg Cassini #1.
I ruled out the first dress because it's the one that doesn't flatter your figure (sorry, I'm minority here). But if you give it a hard look (ie as if it weren't you in the gown but another person) you would notice that your waistline "comes out", meanwhile the breasts don't fill it in the upper portion and the bottom is small when compared to your waistine. So unless you plan to loose weight around your midsection I would rule this dress out (please, notice, I'm not dissing at you -- I don't want you to take it the wrong way, I'm saying these things because you've asked for feedback and I want to help you look at your best!).
I also ruled out Oleg Cassini's #2 because it is less flattering that Oleg Cassini's #1. In fact if you look at the bodices of the two gowns, you'll notice how you look way smaller when in Oleg Cassini's first dress. This is because the Oleg Cassini's #1 has diagonal draping which elongates your torso whereas Oleg Cassini's #2 has horizontal draping which makes your torso look wider (horizontal stripes and drapings are for the superskinniest or the flat chested girls -- in the latter case they look good only when the horizontal draping is on their breasts).
Hope this helps!
keep in mind also that the allure is about 2 sizes to big on her.... so that's why her boobs don't fill it out ;-)
I think fitted to you it will look smashing!
*Abbee...that was my first thought when I tried it on, and I LOVED her dress!
The Allure gown is beautiful and it looks fantastic on you. If I can be brutally honest for a minute, I don't like the material in the photo of the Allure - it looks kind of cheap. Hopefully it's just bad picture quality cause I love it on you.
Also, in the 1st David's Bridal shot, I see some shoes in the background at the bottom hem of the dress. It's the same shoes I wore a few months ago when I was a BM in a crazy as batshit bridezilla from hell's wedding. The.most.uncomfortable.shoes.in.the.world. We all thought it was another way the crazy bride thought of to make us even more misarable on her wedding day. Seeing those shoes made me shudder.
It sounds like you like #2 the best? All these opinions and we didn't really ask you what you like and dislike about each gown. What are YOUR thoughts babe?
I definitely vote for the Allure. It looks much more sophisticated...DB #1 looks very young and sweet, very princess-y...if that's the look you want then go for it. What's your venue like? Is your wedding formal/not-so-formal? To me, the Allure definitely looks liek a more formal wedding dress, where as the DBs would fit better into less formal/maybe more outdoors-y weddings. But you should pick the one YOU feel the best in!
Here are my thoughts:
I really love the Allure dress. It did not look as shiny in person, but I had the same thought that it might not photograph as well. Here is a link to the dress on a model.

I prefer DB dress #1 (the second dress) out of the 2 DB dresses, but I wish that it had more of a "dramatic" back since it's really pretty simple. So basically, I'm split between the 2 dresses that the majority of you like.
My venue is not very fancy...I live in a small city and the wedding will be pretty simple...but who says ruffles can't add a little flair and be the main event of the wedding?
*I blew the budget* Thanks for the info...I was considering these shoes and dying them red to match my colors, but with any kind of heel I will need to order the dress in extra length, so I'll probably end up wearing flats
I think if you did like you mentioned and removed a layer or two of tulle from the first DB one, it would be fabulous! I think that's my vote. :-)
So difficult..they are all so different! I chose DB#2, but it was between that and Allure. I thought the slightly lower waist was just a bit more flattering, although all 3 are pretty. I bet if I saw the Allure straight on, that would have been my choice.
Fun choices!!
I love the Oleg Cassini, it's beautiful and very flattering on you!
Wow, this is a tuffy! I love the way the sweetheart neckline looks on David's Bridal #1, but girl the Allure dress is a show stopper!!!
The Allure is so unique and it flatters your figure a little more than the full skirts on the other two ball gowns. Look at that thin waist and nice hips. I'm sure your hubby's jaw will drop.
I like the Allure gown a lot. I think of the three dresses, that one definitely looks the most flattering on you. However, if you took out a couple layers of tulle from the first DB dress, I think it would make a huge difference and would look better on you. Right now, I think it's a bit too poofy. Still, with that, I think I would go with the Allure.
i love how number looks on you... i will kill for your body and definitely will use the allure... bu at the end is your decision.
Id have to say the Allure dress. But i do really like the tulle dress, but i agree taking out a layer and switching up the sash would add a lot to it.
My vote is for the Allure dress. I think it is super flattering on your figure and I really like the ruffles. If you are worried about it not photographing well I would speak with your photographer and ask them about it - but I think any professional should be able to photograph any type of dress and make it look great.
Dress #2 is nice and definitely has a different look than the Allure dress, but I don't think it's quite as flattering on you. Also, the back of it bothers me...although for a different reason than you mentioned. I don't like how the empire waist in the back comes down to a point. That design element looks dated.
I'm not really a fan of dress #3 - it's a bit sloppy looking to me.
I think that the Allure dress is beautiful, and so flattering on you! The Oleg Cassini is beautiful too, but I think the Allure dress is SO flattering and sophisticated - you look gorgeous!
I think the Allure dress is the most flattering on you - it shows off your curves much better than the DB dresses.
I think I'm joining the minority here, but I like DB #1 & I like your idea of removing a layer of tulle.
I don't like mermaid dresses, and oddly enough I ALSO like those DB ones because I tried them both on! However, I do love that mermaid dress on you... and suprisingly I think you should go with the allure!
I voted for the Oleg Cassini. I agree the fabric in the Allure looks cheap. The Oleg Cassini is kind of Audrey Hepburn-ish and quite classic!
I like them in the order you posted them: Allure, then DB1, DB2.
Well, I made an appointment today to try on the Allure dress for a second time tomorrow, and if all goes well (and the blizzard we're supposed to get isn't that bad)...I'm going to order my dress tomorrow!
Thank you all for your thoughts and opinions :)
