Hello everyone !
I will be going for my honeymoon this coming Sep. I am confused to decide a place from the destinations mentioned above. Me and my fiance love history but we also would like to relax on a beach. Please help !!!
Thank you !

All of them would fit that requirement but weather wise Spain would be better in September. If you like beaches and history you could also try Croatia which is less crowded and still a little cheaper than the three you mentioned.
Also Turkey is a muslim country so some areas which have beaches are not western swimsuit friendly! Just something to consider- you would need to check the area that you are visiting and how moderate/traditional they are.

I travel a lot around Europe and agree that it would make a wonderful honeymoon destination.
I honestly don’t know where this idea comes from that Turkish “beaches are not western swimsuit friendly”. I come from and currently live in Georgia, a country bordering with Turkey, and believe me it is considered to be one of the most popular beach resorts in the region. No one cares about what you are wearing. Plus most resorts have private beaches, so that is not an issue. However, the only place that I would really recommend going to in Turkey is Istambul, very beautiful place.
However, Italy is what I would personally go for, absolutely adore that country. There is so much to explore: culture, architecture, cuisine (!!!). You could stay few days in Rome, and then hit Amalfi coast. Or go to Venice (what a better place for a honeymoon?!) and stay on the Lido beach nearby.
Barcelona is another option, not a big fan of their beach honetly, however you could tour the city (one of the coolest in Europe!!!) and then go to one of the Costa Brava resorts, nearby.

I have been to all 3 and loved each of them but I would have to say go to Italy, you could do Rome, Naples and Florence. Or why not do a 10 day cruise out of Rome with holland America (we did a 20 day one and it was awesome), here is an example http://www.hollandamerica.com/find-cruise-vacation/CruiseDetails.action?destCode=EM&portCode=&shipCodeSearch=&durationCode=&dateCode=9_2012&flexibleMonths=false&noOfFlexibleMonths=1&pageNumber=1&voyageCode=N249&webItineraryIdForAudit=EM2S10

Italy. You could take a ride on a gondalier. How romantic!

ITALY all the way. I got engaged in Venice on a gondola. Venice is the most magical place in the world. I fell in love with that city, it’s so beautiful and I cried when we came home. Everyone should go at least once in their lifetime, and what better time to do it than on your honeymoon?! We’re going back to Italy for our honeymoon – Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. The weather will be nice that time of year too!

@Nanuli: I didn’t say all turkish beaches I said some areas are not as moderate as others. Also I find it better to be a little bit culturally sensistive than be an ugly tourist who doesn’t give a damn! Just because tourist flock to the beach in western swimsuits doesn;t mean that the locals like it or that it is respectful to the local beliefs!

I vote Italy! That’s our expected honeymoon destination, so I’m a little biased. We’re not sure when we’re going to have the time to go — maybe in the spring — but I’m an art history buff, and he loves history, so we plan to visit Rome, Florence, Venice and Pompeii.

FBIL’s Girlfriend just came back from 10 days in Turkey and said it’s absolutely gorgeous. I saw pictures of the beaches there and they’re stunning. There’s also lots of stunning architecture in Istanbul as well. However, I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those three 🙂

You can’t go wrong with Turkey or Italy. They are both amazing countries. (I have been to all three).
@j_jaye: What beaches are you talking about? I have been to literally all beaches on the Eagean and some on the mediterranean, and interacted with the locals extensively, and did not *once* feel uncomfortable.

I agree with all of the PPs about going to Italy. If you do and you want to see the BEST BEACHES, check out Cinque Terre!!!
Also, I would recommend Barcelona – it has sunshine and beaches while also having lots of history. But I don’t think it’s quite as romantic as Italy 😉
