we are doing five to 11. there will be lots of kids at our wedding too. but we are doing photos way before the ceremony... first look 2 pm group shots 2 30 family 400- if ceremony starts at 4 be done at 430 appetizers at 445 dinner at 5 dance and what nots til ten that is good. plus if you think people with kids will be leaving earlier do cake around 6 or 6 30. that way all your guest dont miss the important things
Tied with only 6 votes! I really need advise here bee's. Please.
5-11 is not too late for guests with kids. Do you mean the 11 o'clock time? 10 is not that different. They can get a babysitter or leave earlier if they need to, also.
Magic hour lighting for your ceremony photographs is something you absolutely do want.
Then again, 4 PM means eating at 5 or 6, right? Not too early for dinner IMO. I won't eat later than that ever, if it can be helped.
Not sure how much help I'll be. We opted for an afternoon wedding with an evening after-party. And the blocks of time for the reception were not really negotiable, so it was 12:00 for the wedding and 2:00-6:00pm for the reception.
I guess if I had to pick I would say 4-10. If you don't start the wedding til 5, people may be awfully hungry by time dinner starts (at least I would be).
Will most people have quite long drives/travel back home? I'd decide based on that.
saying that my reception is starting at 5, church ceremony will start at 4.
4pm is really early. I'd say 5pm and people with kids can always leave early.

I don't know when to start the wedding.
We are having a big 250+(including lots of children) dry backyard wedding and reception We are having a buffet style dinner and a DJ.
I hired the DJ for 6 1/2 hours from 4-10pm (he would start music for ppl arriving at 3:30)
My decorator and photographer say that I should start at 5. (photog says best light then.)
I'm just not sure. I'm worried if we start at 4 then it will be to early for dinner but if we start at 5 it will be to late for the guests with kids.
