Bees, you haven’t failed me yet so please help me with yet another decision I need to make. Sorry in advance for the length.
So…FI and I met with a coordinator at Hard Rock Cafe to discuss our rehearsal dinner. It seems great, I love it. Here’s what we get and the pros:
-private, covered patio we can use that is really nice. They also have indoor space we can use for plan B if weather is bad.
-I like that it’s a good location for all of guests and is kind of a fun place that is a little funky and fun, like us 😉
-We have choice of entree from 3 choices and it includes soda, tea, lemonade and dessert.
-$15 pp plus tax and 20% for “event admin” fee (basically gratuity).
-It includes the AV equipment, microphone, and is for 2 1/2 hours.
-They will do flowers complimentary in our colors.
-The coordinator is REALLY nice and I can tell she is dedicated to make us happy.
I think it will cost us about $600. We would also host individual domestic beer and wine drinks. So instead of paying $20 pp just for drinks, we will buy per drink. Not many of our guests drink so that will be fine…but it will tack on however much amount of money for that.
The only issue is this isn’t really in our budget. Our parents are helping us pay for the wedding by splitting the costs 5 ways (both sets of our parents are divorced) — we already set budget and they alraedy gave us money. We could maybe at the end say we went over budget and if anyone wants to give us extra money for that…but I don’t know if I even want to do that and obviously couldn’t bank on it.
So now FI says let’s just host a BBQ. Le sigh. I’m not crazy about that idea because:
-it means we will be hosting 30 people at our house in the day or two before our wedding.
-We have to buy all the food, drinks, and what not for it (which obviously won’t be as expensive as restaurant, but still).
-We will have to prepare and cook it all.
-I should have mentioned too we don’t really have space for 30 people. We hosted a party for my dad recently and with about 20 people, it was a really tight squeeze. We have a living room (with a couch and love seat) and a kitchen with a table and two chairs.
-We do have a good sized deck with about seats for 10, but can’t really bank on the weather in the midwest in June. I’d want a plan B.
What are your thoughts? Is the RD at this restaurant a reasonable price? It seems it to me but what do I know? If not, any ideas where to look for cheaper options? What are your thoughts on BBQ at our place? I would greatly appreciate your opinions! Thank you!!
