Hi!
I have been following this AWESOME site for a while and finally created a username. Its my first post, so hopefully I do this correctly!
I need to find a wedding dress soon and I am confused as to what looks best on me. I thought I wanted a dropped-waist A-line (is it called a fit and flare?), because that way it would be fitted on the top, but still princessy on the bottom. But now I'm wondering if that style will swallow me up. I am short- 5'1, 105 pounds, and a bit heavier on the bottom than the top.
So what KIND of dress would be best for me? These dresses aren't necessarily my finalists, but they are two that I really liked (especially the second!). I'm not sure what the first one is, but the second one is Blue by Enzoani Dabra. THANKS for all of your help bees!!

PS- Any dresses out there that you love that you think would look OK on me? I definitely want a dress with that WOW factor!
Welcome! You have a nice figure, I would flaunt it. The first one looks best I think. It reminds me of the new dress out in the Vera Wang White Collection at David's Bridal right now. I'd stick to the slim trumpets/fit and flare or the dropped A line waists. You look like you are on the right track I'd just stay away from anything pouffy. I myself and looking at styles like your first one. Check out Maggie Sottero. Those are my fave so far.
Sometimes what's more important than what people think is right on your figure is what you want to look like. The first style makes you look very tall and slim and is extremely flattering. I couldn't believe you were 5'1" looking at the photo. However, here's the one caveat - the dresses DO look different once they're hemmed and you're not standing on a foot long podium.
The second dress I'm sure people tell you swallows you a bit because it is a lot of skirt, but honestly it would be one of my top contenders if I was getting married this year. I'm 5'3" 108 lbs, and I felt much prettier in the poofy princessy dresses despite what everyone said.
You look lovely in both, but I think the 2nd dress is stunning, all the flowers in the skirt, very romantic. And you don't looked swallowed up at all!
I think a large part of dress shopping is finding one that makes you excited! Good luck
I'd also recommend checking out the petite bride dress threads here to get an idea of different styles and how they look people on people with similar builds. You'll see a lot of petite brides manage to pull off different styles and make it work on their body. I was a very confused shopper and ended up with three different dresses - 1. Flare & fit (aka trumpet) 2. Natural waist a-line 3. Dropped waist ballgown. Here's a comparison of the styles:

I can't believe how helpful you all are! Thank you for taking the time to give me thoughtful advice!! You each made some great points! :)
I didn't vote for either because I think BOTH look good on you. I'm looking for the exact same style - fitted through the waist so I don't look... fat. I think you can pull off both, it just depends which one you want.
they all look great on you! I would say number 2. Not many brides can pull of the dropped A line, but you are so thin that it definitely works for you! I'd say, go for it!!! The trumpet looks great on you too. I don't like all that's going on with the bottom of the first dress, so maybe try some other designs within the trumpet style. Bottom line- you look fantastic :)
I think that the first and last dresses are most flattering on you. But I really, really love that last dress. I think you should get that one!
You look AMAZING in the second gown! It suits you perfectly!!! BEAUTIFUL too!
I believe you can really never go wrong with lace. I love love love lace dresses and I think the lace on you looks very good. So soft and romantic.
You defintely look stunning in both silhouettes! It's a tie as far as I'm concerned.
I think the top would matter more for you. The first one, with the ruching at the bust, seems to swallow you (it's meant to disguise extra weight, and you don't have any.) The Blue flatters you more (I see a woman, not a preteen.) The narrow belt highlights your waist better, giving you a more hourglass-like figure. Go with something that hugs the torso, not something meant to disguise extra weight.
And I'm ALL for drop waist a-lines, being short myself. It was the only modern dress that didn't make me feel like a dwarf.
the second one by a landslide. You have an awesome figure, and I think the first one doesn't show your shape as much (makes you look a little rectangular??) whereas the second one shows off your tiny figure while still emphasizing your curves... very feminine and pretty!
@Swoontobee Mrs.G: I love the second dress with the first belt you have on! diffiently WOW !!! I don't likt the skinny belt as much though
You have such an awesome figure, I'm sure you'd look great in most dress silhouettes! But in terms of the two dresses you posted, I LOVE the Enzoani on you. It looks so pretty!
Fit-and-flare is the same shape I originally wanted for the exact same reasons as you too--and I think I ended up with--although I love the more dramatic flare of yours.
Thanks for the really sweet and helpful comments everyone! I think deep down I really do love the Enzoani- I didn't get much of a reaction with that particular dress from my loved ones when I tried it on though, so I started to think that maybe all that tulle really doesn't look good on me. Thanks for the reassurance, that's definitely #1 on my list now.
@bRooklynRocks- I know what you mean about the lace... it's so romantic and it's hard for me not to be drawn to dresses that have it. :)
You look great in the dropped waist. While I prefer the first dress for style, the dropped waist looks better on your body type. If you want a unique gown that kind of has the best of both worlds I would suggest you trying on Pronovias Finisterre (this is the dress I ordered) I am absolutely in love with it.
You look AMAZING in both dresses... I think the most important thing is to wait until YOU feel amazing. There's definitely a difference between "Oh, pretty dress" and "Heck, yeah! I can't wait for him to see me in this dress!"
When you look good in so many dresses, it's going to make it tough to decide. Try to reassure yourself that you really can't go wrong and, if you have time, wait until you find the one that you don't really need any feedback on.
Oops~ just to add...
I've noticed that extreme drop waisted gowns like the first one can make legs look even shorter after hemming. The line of the leg is cut across the thigh and then you lose so much of the skirt in alterations... the fullness of the Enzoani would help avoid that and there's no actual line to distract the eye. I think you'd look taller in pictures after it's altered.
@Swoontobee Mrs.G: I had to laugh a little at "Any dresses out there that you love that you think would look OK on me?" I doubt there's a dress out there that wouldn't look OK on you.
Of the two, I prefer the second dress on you. Not that both dresses don't look wonderful on you, but I just like the dress better!
I actually LOVE how the Dabra looks on you!!! I tried that dress on myself, but it did not give me any curves or look good on me, but it gives you a beautiful shape!!
ps - I went with Enzoani Cheyenne instead, but I can send you pics of me in the Dabra, it looks amazing on you though!
EDIT - just looked at the photos again, the skirt is so amazing and full on the Dabra, how can you not be impressed???!!!
It seems like majority like the 2nd, but that 1st one is just too awesome!!!
You and I could be twins! I'm 5'1" and about 5 pounds heavier than you lol! Like you, I'm a little more blessed in the butt area than on top :)
Let me tell you what worked really, really well for me. The first type that looked great was the trumpet style--especially if you are a bit fuller on bottom, a trumpet will accent your curves amazingly! Just be sure to wear heels--short people tend to get a bit chopped up in mermaids, but since you are so thin adding just a few inches in heel height should REALLY help that.
Now, I decided to go with a normal A-line because I've never really envisioned myself in a trumpet. But again, the dropped A-line will really accentuate your bottom curves, which you are more blessed in. Also adding a belt or sash (like one of the dresses pictured) will really help define your waist and help you out up top too. Just be sure to wear heels--extra height will avoid the chopping-up problem we short people sometimes have with belts.
Lastly, DEFINITELY go for a sweetheart neckline. I looked the best in them, but I ended up getting a dress without one. I still think it looks good on me (it's cut straight across), but a sweetheart will make you look more curvy in the boob area (at least it did for me).
Good luck and I'm really excited for you!!
They both flatter you well. You have a great body shape so if #1 is comfy & you like it why not flaunt what you have?
If you prefer #2 (style comfort whatever) go for #2-- they both make you look amazing.
You look fantasic in both but looooooove the second. I also have quite an atheltic figure so know where you're coming from. Previous poster right you should stick with a sweetheart neckline or a v-neck or you get a dress with straps. You also need a dress that pinches in at the waist so avoid empire line dresses.
The 2nd dress still nips in at the waist and hugs the hips so it works well.
I love the second dress on you! I too am the same size and although I am going with a ball gown I really loved the fuller fit and flare styles like the second dress.
I give the edge to the trumpet style on you - your figure is amazing and I'd love to see you show it off! However, I love the lace of the second dress. So maybe as you're shopping, you can start looking for those qualities! :) But go with what makes you feel the most beautiful.
I'm sorry, I love voting in dress polls, and I usually have no problem making a decision, but both of these dresses are absolutely breathtaking! They are so gorgeous and both look so great on you that I don't think I can pick! Good luck choosing :)
you seriously look amazing in both! The first one I like better but I agree with another bee that it may look different hemmed. The dropped waist may come down too low for us petite girls unless they can hem it by raising it from the top? I voted for one but also love two.
the second complimented your frame better I think. I also am agreeing with other bees that a fit flare would look great, we with a bit more on the bottom should flaunt it :)
I love 1st one on You! Very modern look! good luck! Ps. I was very close to buy this dress!
