I moved it for you ๐Ÿ™‚

I really can’t help, we were bought an orchid for Christmas and I was convinced it would die.  We live in a hot, humid climate (90F, 85% humidity) and don’t have to do very much to it at all.

Hope someone else can shed some light.

I’ve always had lousy luck with these suckers.  So of course I have my two cents which may prove worthless.

put them in a part of your house with the most greenhouse like environment, put them where they can get light but not TOO much light.  Replant them in a larger pot with orchid bark, and water them with water and make sure they get decent drainage.  maybe try a bit of orchid food.    Also be aware that orchids may not flower every year, and sometimes baby plants will grow off the stems.

@Arganique:  if it’s any consolation I received an orchid over xmas and I think I officially killed it. First the flowers fell off then the stem dried up completely and 1 of the leaves is now completely yellow! The worst part – I followed the care instructions to the T, using orchid food and everything! I’m so sad!

@Arganique:  Sometimes it helps to take them into the bathroom when you shower so they can warm up and soak up some humidity.

My Mother-In-Law is an orchid nut and over the years I have learned that watering an orchid with ice cubes doesn’t do much for the plant. In her words, “if you were thirty, would you want just an ice cube?” Makes sense. So with that said, make sure the pot has some form of drainage and just let the sink facet run for a few minutes.

@Arganique:  They really are beautiful. I have lost so many beautiful orchids. I am staring at the one in my livingroom as I type this. I have been watering it just as mentioned above, but it STILL dies. I have no luck with these delicate flowers, but for some reason I can grow Lillies.

I have a friend who has an orchid that blooms EVERY YEAR, all she does is water it once a week (same day) with watered down coffee. She swears by it and hasn’t ever repotted or anything and hers continues to bloom

I am like 1 for 5 with these things. I had one beauty that actually stayed in bloom for over 4 months, but that was a fluke I’m convinced. The others have done what yours did with the yellow leaves and the dying flowers…good luck, I still haven’t figured it out.
