I am having a major dress dilemna. I am in LOVE with the Maggie Sottero Melissa Brooch. Sadly, none of the bridal stores anywhere near me have a sample. Closest dresses are the Coco (for silhouette and the front gather and neckline and fabric) and the Madison Marie (same rouching on the bodice, but different bottom of the bodice and fabric).
I’ve tried on the Coco a million times, which all of my maids and family members LOVE. I think the silhouette is very flattering but I am a simple girl and can’t stand the beading. Is just not me. I like the Madison, but the fabric is a little too shiny for me and the bodice is too long. The rouching and bustline are same as the Melissa. So…TOGETHER, the two dresses will look like the Melissa Brooch.
My friends/family love the Coco because it draws the eye up, rather than down. I’m also concerned because I am fairly petite (5’0, 100 lbs) and some people are saying that the beading on the top is nice because it draws the eye up to my face and not down towards my hips. I love the Melissa even if it is simple because I want my dress to be classic, and as timeless possible. My aunt has a gorgeous diamond necklace that I can borrow, and that can dress up the simple Melissa Brooch dress.
Would you order a dress that you’ve never tried on? What should I do?

You DO look amazing in the first dress!! Can you ask if the dress can be made without the top beading?

Based on your pictures, I say order the one with the brooch. You know it is the one you love, even if you aren’t able to try it on, because you have tried the dresses in the first two pictures on, and you are right, if you marry the first two dresses, you will get your dream dress. Normally, I don’t say order sight unseen, but in this case, I think it would be the right thing to do.

@Scottielass: Unfortunately, Maggie Sottero won’t make changes to the dresses like other designers like Casablanca. So I’m stuck with the beads. Even the new version of the Coco has a ton of beading. Boo.

Wow I thought you looked great in the Madison!

I ordered my dress without being able to try it on. After trying on a zillion dresses I knew exactly what components I liked and what I didn’t. I was looking for a dress that had to meet the criteria I created after trying so many on and I found one! They even had it in the store but the thing wouldn’t get over my hips and I couldn’t get it on. I held it up against my body, and examined all the details very closely and ordered it! And you know what? When it came in it was perfect!
Go with what you know you love. You know that the fitted, dropped waist sweetheart style looks great on you and you love the details of the Melissa Brooch. I say go for it!

I ordered my dress sight unseen. Luckily it fit with minimal alterations. Order the dress you love -go for the Melissa!

The first one looks amazing on you, your family is right. Is the beading an applique or all individually beaded? If it’s an applique, just have it removed!
I actuallly like it better because of the style of ruching, and where the hip line hits on you – much more flattering than the second dress.

i would go with the melissa. i tried on coco, adelaide, (not sure if i found a store with madison), as well as like 30 other maggie dresses and i was down to rachelle, harriett, and possibly melissa brooch. the nice thing about melissa brooch is it comes in the cheaper version (not the royale) so you won’t break the bank either!
also, see if the bridal store will do a dress loaner request for melissa brooch (i know maggie sottero has this program because i was calling around like crazy trying to find someone with rachelle in stock to try on). you pay like $50 and the store will request a particular dress to be shipped to them so you can try it on. if you wind up buying the dress through the store, they will usually credit your $50 to the dress.

@futuremrskelsey: Answering your second to last question, “Would you order a dress that you’ve never tried on?”….I have actually done this…I ordered the Maggie Sottero “IRINA” dress from a local wedding boutique that did not have a sample of it, nor did any other shops around where I lived carried the sample…so I just looked at a lot of pictures of other women who have worn the dress and then I concluded that I would also look great in it..the way it was shaped, where it came down on the bust, etc…so I ordered it and I couldn’t be happier with my choice…I can’t wait for it to come in so I can try it on for the very first time…
The whole wedding dress shopping was crazy for me. I went to a boutique, found a dress I “thought” I loved, and then realized it was wayyyy to heavy the 2nd time I tired it on…so then I canceled the order, and found another dress online that I loved…so the original deposit went to the 2nd dress…then as I’m surfing the web, and opening emails from so many bridal shops, I found THE DRESS..the Maggie Sottero “IRINA” dress…and I knew that THAT’S THE DRESS I WANTED TO WEAR on my wedding day…hands down…so…trust me when I say that you’ll have 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and even 5th thoughts about the wedding dress you picked..but once you get THE DRESS, you’ll know….it’s ironic how the one dress that I haven’t even tried on turned out to be THE ONE, compared to the other dresses that I have actually tried on…I hope my story helps you in some way…good luck fellow bee!

I wouldn’t buy a dress I wasn’t totally in love with and wasn’t “me” – that’s a lot of money to spend on something you don’t love. So I say either buy the brooch dress or keep looking for something else.

love the second dress!
However, you’ve tried on two dresses that are very similar in style to the one you love….If you know that the one you love is the one you want, then you can envision how it will look without trying it on. I wouldn’t settle if you dont absolutely LOVE either of the dresses you tried on because youll just regret your choice later.
If you really feel you need to try it on before you commit, I know some retailers will allow you to have the dress shipped to the store to try on and all you have to do is pay shipping costs. I know one maggie retailer was willing to do that for me because they didnt have a dress I wanted to try on in the store. So had I asked them to do that, the shipping that I paid would have gone toward the dress that I ordered in their store.
I say go for the dress you love, or try on other dresses. dont settle.

I don’t think any dress you put on would look bad on you! You have a great figure! You’ve tried on a couple of Maggie dresses already, so you know they work with your body type (your favorite dress is a similar style to the 2 you’ve already tried on), so I say go ahead and order the one you truly love, even if you haven’t tried it on. I think your chances are amazingly high that it will look fabulous on you! Best of luck.

I agree with @brady. Don’t settle for either of the dresses that you don’t love.
If you feel confident that the Melissa is the one you want, I say go for it.
