Hey there, Bees- I’ve got a question and could use advice/opinions.
My ceremony is at 11am in June and will be in historic downtown Annapolis. Can you help me figure out what sort of a dress would be appropriate to wear for a morning wedding?
My mom has made comments that since it is a morning wedding, the dress shouldn’t be as formal as if it were a late afternoon or evening wedding. I do understand this, but I don’t really know what to look for.
I’m going to start looking at dresses next week, and would like a little more guidance from people who are not salespersons. 😉
I think I would prefer something like a sheath or fitted with a drop waist to give me longer lines (I’m only 5′ tall- aka NO big poofy skirt for me! But that would probably be too formal anyway haha). Is there something out there like this that would fit a morning ceremony?
Thanks in advance for your help!! <3

I think you want to stay away from the very embellished, very puffy, very long trained gowns, which it sounds like you don’t really want anyway. My ceremony is at 11:30 and I’m wearing a modified a-line lace dress with a chapel train and subtle beading (it just throws off a little sparkle when the light hits it). Good luck!

Oo. You could totally do something super soft and romantic. A sheath would be beautiful! I agree that you should go less poofy, less beading, more flowy and casual. Lace would be pretty, or maybe chiffon, organza or net?
Something like this maybe?

Honestly, I don’t think you should shy away of any dresses you like just because of the ceremony time. Location and venue are maybe something you should keep in mind, but go for what you’re drawn to!
It sounds to me you might like some of these dresses, no? All these are by WToo and Watters.

I thnk you should wear a gown that makes you feel great. It is your wedding and your gown can be as formal or casual as you want it to be. Just as long as you are comfortable in it, that is all that matters.

Ditto on what noritake22, choose a dress that looks beautiful on you and fits your personality. if you follow those guidelines, it sounds like your dress will look perfect with your venue and time anyways. I love annapolis btw! its a great city to get married in because there is are soo many great photo ops!
That being said, if i listened to what my mother thought was an appropriate wedding dress, id be in a 70’s long, bell sleeved number complete with a halo of wild flowers around my head, all the while strumming my guitar and walking around barefoot. Needless to say, sometimes our mother’s opinions aren’t the most helpful.

Ooohh I love soft, flowy, romantic, feminine dresses!! Thanks for the suggestions; they are lovely!
@sweetkischa- your dress sounds beautiful and perfect, but I am drawing a blank on what a chapel train looks like..
@zippylef- love that dress! however I think it will be a task to get it the right length without chopping off the beautiful hem. :/ maybe they can make a petite one for me..?
@miss chapstick- thanks for the suggestions! I definitely like the softness of the first and last one.
@twinkletoesJMU- I love Annapolis! It is my home town. I’ve been running around there since I was 2! I’ve been very lucky to grow up in such an awesome town. 🙂
Hmm, anyone know if they have dresses like this that are not sweetheart? Maybe straight across? I don’t know which neckline I’d prefer.

@jazziberry – jcrew has some beautiful, simple dresses that i think would be prefect for a morning ceremony.
have you considered doing something short? that might be cute for a June morning, too! i’m, personally, crazy for this one from priscilla of boston — classic, simple & would be stunning with a great pair of heels!:

I have though of a shorter dress this one –> http://www.onewed.com/wedding-dresses/designer/justin-alexander/dress/strapless/a-line/tea-length/8465/ in particular. I love this one so much, but I have a feeling I’m really not going to be tall enough to pull it off. 🙁
